The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 152

His trouser leg was tugged with a soft, secretive force.

His lips pressing together, Alistair instinctively shifted his legs further inward under the desk, shielding her even more securely.

The desk wasn't fully enclosed; if anyone bothered to lean over and look, they would easily spot the hem of the girl's skirt and her heels.

Alistair was well aware of this, which was why he tucked her completely behind his legs.

The girl seemed genuinely terrified, her small hand gripping the fabric of his trousers with trembling force.

With a slight compression of his lips, Alistair briefly closed his eyes and lowered one of his hands to cover hers, patting the back of it twice.

It was a silent, comforting gesture.

To an outsider, the man merely looked as though he was resting his hand naturally on his lap.

But his expression was chillingly stern, his dark eyes swirling with impenetrable ink.

The knuckles of the hand resting over hers curled slightly. Beautiful, distinct veins stood out against the back of his hand, pulsing steadily just beneath the skin.

He wasn't gripping her hand tightly; he merely draped his palm over hers. Even so, Alistair could feel the cool, soft temperature of her skin.

The footsteps grew closer until they stopped directly in front of his desk.

Turning her head, Celia could clearly see the tips of the man's shoes.

He was far too close.

It was only natural that she was "scared and nervous."

So, she flipped her hand over and boldly wrapped her fingers around his knuckles.

It felt like an electric shock.

Alistair's immediate instinct was to pull his hand away.

But that flinch lasted only a split second. Catching himself, he pressed his hand firmly back into place, letting her hold him.

The new manager standing in front of the desk paused. He noticed the CEO's unnatural expression and asked, confused, "Mr. Zucker, is everything alright?"

As he spoke, the man instinctively leaned in, as if to get a better look.

"I'm fine," Alistair said, a single freezing glare forcing the man to step back. "Wait off to the side. I'll review your project plan."

"Yes, sir."

For some inexplicable reason, the new manager felt as though the glance Mr. Zucker just shot him was that of a vicious beast catching a trespasser eyeing its treasure.
