The massive auditorium was a mosaic of shifting shadows and bustling crowds.

The air buzzed with the laughter and chatter of countless students.

Alistair looked down at her. "What is it?"

Celia's smile deepened, her eyes bright as stars. "Could you turn my tassel for me?"

An unreadable emotion flickered in his dark eyes. His long lashes lowered as his deep voice rumbled, "Didn't someone else already do it?"

Celia looked up, beaming. "But I want you to do it again. To me, you are the closest person in the world besides Grandpa."

Her eyes shone with sincerity, looking up at him with earnest, perfect innocence.

The man was tall. From his vantage point, he could easily see the top of her head as she tilted it downward.

The graduation cap was a bit too big, and a few strands of hair had escaped her clips, falling rebelliously over her chest.

"Please, turn my tassel?" she asked once more.

The golden fringe swayed near her ear. Alistair heard his own voice reply.

"Alright."

He raised his hand. His right fingers gently caught the tassel. With a movement that was incredibly light, slow, and profoundly solemn, he guided it over to the left side of her cap.

"Thank you," Celia cheered happily.
