The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 35

The interior of the private jet looked like a luxurious lounge, exuding the owner's impeccable taste from every corner.

Just as Lavinia settled into her seat, her phone rang. It was Garnett. She immediately hung up.

Beside her, Charley was looking down at his phone, messaging 'Z'.

[Ms. Wallace?]

Z replied instantly: [Boss, is the gender an issue? I can change my approach.]

"Charley, have you ever flown on this plane before?" Lavinia asked.

Charley placed his phone face-down and looked at her. "No."

"Oh." Lavinia felt a bit nervous. "This is my first time on a private jet. Are there any rules I should know?"

"Just treat it like you're at home."

"Huh?"

Lavinia couldn't shake the feeling that he was acting a bit too much like the owner.

Shortly after takeoff, she began to feel dizzy.

Charley summoned the head attendant and got her a motion sickness pill. After taking it, she felt groggy.

"There's a bedroom inside. Go in and get some sleep," Charley said. "We'll be there when you wake up."

Lavinia felt it was inappropriate to use someone else's bedroom and was about to decline, but he gently supported her with one hand while pushing open a concealed door with the other.

Inside was an elegant bedroom, completely insulated from any noise.

He helped her lie down. Just as he was about to leave, Lavinia suddenly spoke up.

"Charley, I'm afraid of the dark. Could you leave a nightlight on?"

Charley walked over to the bedside, lightly tapped a specific button, and seamlessly turned on the nightlight.

Lavinia looked at him meaningfully.

He realized his slip and met her gaze calmly, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes.

"Charley, are you sure this is really your first time on this private jet?" Lavinia pulled the blanket up to hide the smile tugging at her lips.

He sat on the edge of the bed, raising a hand to lightly tap her forehead.

"What are you imagining? I'm a perfectly legitimate businessman."

"And what does an illegitimate businessman look like?" Lavinia's eyes crinkled in amusement.

His gaze lingered on her face for a long moment.

"Let me ask you instead. What kind of illegitimate people have you ever met?"

Lavinia stuck her tongue out playfully. "Well, you're so handsome. It must be hard for your wealthy female clients not to get the wrong idea."

In her hazy dream, the world shook, and the sound of howling wind echoed in her ears.

Someone was calling out beside her. "Lavinia, wake up."

The voice was familiar. She reached out, trying to grab onto something, and a warm hand caught hers.

"We're here. It's time to get up."

Lavinia was dazed. The voice felt both strange and familiar.

Who was calling her Lavinia so tenderly?

It wasn't Saul. Was it—

"Garnett?"

The warmth holding her hand seemed to turn cold for a fraction of a second.

"It's me," a deep voice replied.

Lavinia suddenly jolted awake.

She remembered she was on a private jet flying to India, and the person with her was Charley.

She slowly opened her eyes.

The soft amber light traced his striking features with a golden hue. Gentle, handsome, like someone pulled straight from a girl's dream.
