The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 341

Lavinia spent the entire night tossing and turning.

It took every ounce of her willpower to resist the urge to run out and find him in the middle of the night.

The next morning, she went to work sporting dark circles under her eyes.

When Zoey saw her, she offered a sympathetic grimace. "Mr. Sheffield is already on a flight to The Republic of Golia."

Desperate for news, Lavinia pressed her. "What exactly is going on? Is it classified? Can you tell me?"

"He owns a tungsten mine in Golia that's already operational," Zoey explained. "But a certain foreign power is trying to sabotage things. They sent people to lobby the president, and rumor has it the president is looking for an excuse to tear up the agreement and seize the mine. Mr. Sheffield went over there personally to smooth things out."

Lavinia's blood ran cold.

Anyone with a passing knowledge of international politics knew how dangerous that trip would be. He wouldn't just be facing local rebel factions; he'd be dealing with foreign spies and a potentially treacherous head of state.

That only made Lavinia feel worse. *There are things more dangerous than this?*

Realizing she was digging a deeper hole, Zoey began explaining frantically.

Lavinia didn't hear a word of it. After a long moment, she interrupted her. "You're really worried too, aren't you?"

Zoey froze. After a long, heavy silence, she gave a soft, "Yeah."

Lavinia felt sick with unshed tears.

If she had known this trip was so dangerous, she never would have said what she did yesterday.

If he didn't come back, her words from yesterday would be their final goodbye.

Her nose stung. She ducked into the breakroom to collect herself, pulled out her phone, and opened her messages.

She stared at the screen for a long time, unsure of what to say. Finally, she typed out a simple text: *Safe travels. I'll be waiting for you.*

She waited, but there was no reply.

Of course there wasn't. He was on a plane in airplane mode; he couldn't receive messages.

Just as she was about to head back to her office, another notification popped up:
