During the morning meeting, Jocelyn Chandler presented on behalf of the Industry Research and Post-Investment Management Departments.
She publicly praised Lavinia, commending her for using her personal connections to secure construction land for one of their invested companies.
The chairman nodded approvingly, casting an appreciative glance Lavinia's way.
Lavinia couldn't help but think about how she had almost sacrificed herself just to coordinate that plot of land. It definitely wasn't worth it. She wondered if this meant she'd get a raise.
Then it hit her—Charley was the main backer of Celestial Capital, which technically made her his employee too.
The man was terrifyingly cunning. He had tricked her into working for him while keeping tabs on her every move.
Pretending to be a regular working stiff to exploit her empathy... he was a wolf in sheep's clothing! A big, bad wolf!
After the meeting, Garnett called. She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Lavinia, are you okay?"
She let out a cold laugh. "It's been a whole day. If I wasn't okay, I'd be dead by now."
She paused. "How is Sigrid? Hopefully not too traumatized."
Silence hung on the line before he replied coldly, "I don't know. I sent someone else to deal with her."
Right, he was quick to distance himself now. What happened to owing her his life?
"Lavinia, do you know Charley's real identity?" Garnett asked.
She blinked, keeping her tone flat. "Of course. What about it?"
"Your reaction yesterday told me otherwise." Garnett's voice grew heavy. "I pushed Julian Gilmore for information. He wouldn't talk at first, but he eventually let some things slip."
He paused. "Lavinia, that man is incredibly dangerous. You need to stay far away from him."
