The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 324

Garnett nodded. Jimmie tactfully walked away.

The song she played, he didn't know the name. In their two years of marriage, he didn't even know she could play the guitar.

"You've never played in front of me." He said.

"I haven't played in a long time." Lavinia's gaze fell on the charcoal fire, refusing to turn to him.

There was a moment of silence. The charcoal fire popped.

"I originally wanted to invite you to Windward Peak, just the two of us." He spoke, his voice not loud, "You wouldn't come, so I called Joel. I don't know how Tobin found out, which is why it turned out like this today. I know you hate Tobin, and he and I are hardly friends."

Lavinia let out a faint hum of acknowledgment.

"Lavinia." He called her.

She didn't answer, but the hand poking the charcoal stopped.

"You never asked me why I proposed in the first place." Garnett said.

"What's the point of talking about this now."

"There is a point." He said.

The firelight shone on his face, and his expression was very serious.

"I proposed twice. The first time you didn't agree, saying you wanted to think about it. I was pretty devastated that day. After a month, I asked again. You agreed."

He paused, "That night, I barely slept. I thought I was just anxious. But it wasn't that."

Lavinia's lips pressed tightly together.

"I did a lot of things that made you misunderstand. It's my fault. It won't happen again." Garnett held Lavinia's hand, "Lavinia, let's go home, okay? It wasn't easy for me to have a home, I don't want to lose it, and I especially don't want to lose you."

His voice got lower and lower, drier and drier, as if he was digging it out from the depths of his chest little by little.

"Lavinia, I have never begged anyone for anything. As long as you are willing to go back, I can agree to any conditions."

Lavinia's fingers moved slightly.

She looked at his hand. His fingers were fair and slender, hands that had never done chores or known the hardships of life.

The pampered young master, for the first time, spoke to her so humbly.
