Garnett sat in the center seat. He looked calmly at Lavinia and slowly stood up.
Clap, clap, clap—
Garnett began a slow, deliberate applause. The board members and executives, as if waking from a dream, immediately joined in. Thunderous applause echoed throughout the conference room.
Only one person remained seated, motionless—Zenia Ford.
Lavinia found it incredibly strange. She wasn't a board member, nor did she hold any position in the company. What was Zenia doing here?
It seemed the Harper Group was staging a corporate palace drama, and Lavinia, the unlucky bystander, had just stumbled right onto the stage.
Garnett walked around the massive circular table, stepping slowly until he stood directly in front of Lavinia. He stopped, looked at her, and offered a faint smile.
"We were just saying that my wife has delivered a much-needed shot of adrenaline to the group at our most critical moment. We were just talking about you, and here you are."
Lavinia had absolutely no idea what kind of play he was putting on.
Garnett looked at her and said gently, "We're still in a meeting. Go wait for me in my office."
Lavinia let out a cold laugh.
"Garnett, have I been too nice to you?"
She swept her gaze around the conference room. The executives stared at her dumbfounded, like deer caught in headlights.
"A massive conglomerate like the Harper Group, relying on an unrelated person to pump up your valuation—aren't you embarrassed? Have you no shame?"
Dropping those words, she turned on her heel and headed for Garnett's office. Corinne hurriedly followed behind her.
Garnett watched Lavinia's retreating back, his face darkening.
Zenia sized Garnett up and sneered. "Garnett, playing the loving couple has its limits. Fake is fake. Be careful it doesn't blow up in your face."
