Lavinia paused at the entrance to the CEO's office.

Outside the main office was a reception suite where Garnett's second secretary sat, managing visitors and announcements.

Across from the secretary's desk was a set of sofas where those waiting to see the CEO usually sat.

Today, the person sitting on the sofa was Sigrid Sloan.

Lavinia stopped in her tracks. She looked at Sigrid, and Sigrid stared right back at her.

"Secretary Corinne," Lavinia said, turning her head slightly. "Garnett told me to wait for him inside his office, didn't he?"

Sigrid's glare was as cold as a knife. But Corinne had no choice but to answer truthfully.

"Yes, Mr. Harper asked you to wait for him inside."

Lavinia's lips curved into a faint smile. She swept a glance over Sigrid and said dryly, "It seems that as long as I remain Mrs. Harper, certain people won't be able to step over the threshold."

She turned to Sigrid and asked with a sweet smile, "The harder you try, the more pathetic it looks, doesn't it, Sigrid?"

Sigrid pressed her lips together tightly, saying nothing.

"What's wrong? Too afraid to talk back? Afraid someone will catch you slipping up?" Lavinia chuckled. "Makes sense. As a mistress without a title, what right do you have to speak anyway?"

"Lavinia, once you're no longer Mrs. Harper, what exactly will give you the right to be so arrogant?" Sigrid shot back coldly.

Lavinia smiled. "You call this arrogance? It's just simple justice. As for what gives me the right—I have a spine. Unlike certain people who only know how to kneel and beg."

With that, she lifted her chin and marched confidently into the CEO's office.

Garnett's office was massive, offering a breathtaking view of the city. Lavinia sat down on the sofa, and Corinne quickly pulled an array of beverages from the mini-fridge, arranging them in front of her.

"Mr. Harper requested these specifically for you. Would you prefer boba tea or sparkling water?" Corinne asked humbly.

Lavinia shot her a look.

Corinne, who had always been distant and dismissive toward her, was suddenly being remarkably polite.
