The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 166

A very faint scoff sounded nearby.

Lavinia glanced over. Heath had his head bowed, holding a digital recorder in his hand. The red light was steadily blinking on and off.

He noticed her gaze, looking up with a slight smile, saying nothing.

Just as Lavinia was about to retort, another voice came from behind her.

"I told you. No one believes your self-righteous act."

She turned around. Garnett stood behind her, Sigrid by his side.

"Sigrid, wait for me over there for a minute," Garnett said softly. "I need to handle this."

Sigrid looked at him, her voice barely a whisper. "Don't get angry. And please don't argue. You haven't been sleeping well lately. If you keep pushing yourself, your body is going to break down."

Hearing those words, a cold sneer curled on Zenia's lips as she looked at Lavinia with open mockery.

Lavinia looked completely unfazed, sitting there like she hadn't heard a thing.

Garnett reached out and affectionately pinched Sigrid's cheek. "Don't worry. This won't take long."

Sigrid shot Lavinia a brief look before turning and walking away.

Garnett pulled out a chair and sat down right next to Lavinia.

He snatched the agreement out of her hand, skimmed through it, and then locked his eyes onto Heath.

"You're the lawyer? Did you draft this agreement?"

Heath smiled. "I did. Do you have any feedback, Mr. Harper?"

"How much did my stepmother pay you?"

"Client confidentiality prevents me from answering that."

Garnett leaned back in his chair, his tone lazy. "Whatever she's paying you, I'll triple it."

Charley's gaze swept over everyone at the table, not even missing Sigrid sitting in the corner.

The corner of his mouth ticked upward slightly. "Looking at this setup, someone might think you're all just ganging up on one defenseless woman. If they didn't know better, they'd think it was a pack of wolves cornering a lamb."

His eyes landed on Heath, pausing for a fraction of a second before letting out a cold chuckle. "You even brought out a senior partner from a magic circle firm."

Heath smiled politely and extended his hand. "Have we met? It's a pleasure."

Charley didn't take his hand. He looked down at Lavinia, his voice softening. "Lavinia, you're lacking competent legal counsel. It just so happens I have a law license, and I work completely pro bono."

He looked straight into her eyes, asking earnestly, "Ms. Joplin, would you like to retain my services?"

Lavinia looked up at him, a genuine smile breaking across her face. "Yes. From this moment on, Attorney Charley Sheffield is my legal representative."

Charley pulled up a chair, sat down beside her, and held his hand out. "Give me the documents."

Lavinia handed them over. Charley took the papers and began flipping through them page by page, reading every single line with intense scrutiny.
