Garnett crossed his arms, his voice icy. "Charley, what gives you the right to interfere in our family's private matters?"

Charley didn't even bother looking up. "Didn't you just witness it yourself, Mr. Harper? Ms. Joplin has already retained me as her legal counsel."

Garnett stared him down. "You seem awfully invested in my wife."

Charley flipped another page, his tone completely indifferent. "Mr. Harper, how about I call Saul over here right now? Let's ask him in front of everyone—when you all gang up to bully Lavinia, shouldn't I be invested?"

Garnett's eyes darkened instantly.

After finishing the postnuptial supplement, Charley turned to Lavinia. "Have you signed any other agreements?"

Lavinia nodded. "Two others. A prenuptial agreement and a previous postnuptial agreement."

She pulled out her phone, found the digital copies, and forwarded them to him. Charley opened them up and began reading.

Zenia was completely losing her patience. "Where did this nobody come from? Who do you think you are, meddling in the Harper family's business?"

Charley didn't even lift his head. "Is your last name Harper?"

Zenia choked on her words. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

Lavinia shot Charley a surprised look.

She never would have guessed that someone who usually seemed so quiet and mild-mannered could have such an absolutely venomous tongue.

Charley finally finished reading Lavinia's prenuptial agreement along with the other documents. He set his phone down and looked up.

"My client has already made her position perfectly clear regarding this supplementary agreement. She will not be signing it."

He paused briefly. "Furthermore, from a legal standpoint, I believe Mr. Harper abused his position of power to coerce my client into signing fundamentally unfair agreements that blatantly violate matrimonial law. My client reserves the right to pursue litigation against Mr. Garnett Harper."

Garnett narrowed his eyes dangerously. "What did you just say?"

Charley completely ignored him, turning to Lavinia with a gentle tone. "Ms. Joplin, you have every right to refuse to sign this blatantly inequitable contract. Even if you were coerced into signing previous ones, once we take this to court, the judge will rely on superior legislation to issue a fair ruling."

He glared daggers at their retreating backs, his jaw locked tight.

Sigrid clung to his arm, too afraid to say a word.

Zenia sat there, a nasty sneer pulling at her lips. "Well, Garnett, I think it's perfectly clear who she's truly loyal to. If you actually let Lavinia inherit your grandmother's assets..."

Zenia let the threat hang in the air, leaving the rest unsaid out of a twisted sense of courtesy to her stepson.

Garnett didn't respond. He knew exactly what she was implying.

She was telling him that if Lavinia got her hands on a massive fortune, she would become entirely uncontrollable.

Heath stood up, snapped his briefcase shut, and offered Garnett a polite smile. "Mr. Harper, if there's nothing else, I'll escort Mrs. Harper home now."

Garnett didn't even look at him. Heath didn't seem to care, simply stepping aside to let Zenia lead the way out as he followed close behind.
