While her cousin and brother looked at her as if she were the Oracle, Sasha had her severe gaze set on the book. Despite the fact that she had figured out something, she was aware of its flaws. Why is Nikolai so possessive if he doesn’t have Ophelia’s scent? Was she only in his care to serve as a diversion from his demons? Why then does he keep calling his mate when he might just state that she is a sex slave, mistress, or something similar? The birthmark, what about it? Sasha was utterly perplexed. 1

“This is beyond my control; all I know now is that I don’t have to be concerned about her well–being if Nikolai doesn’t have her scent.” Sasha grumbled.

“Then we shall proceed with our efforts to eliminate her.” Boris took the

lead.

“You are aware of her prowess as a warrior, right?” Danil enquired because he knew Boris intended to face the dragoness alone.

“Do you consider me to be a joke?” Boris scoffed and inquired before leaving the room, his broad shoulders squared.

Danil shrugged. “I won’t look back and regret this.” He whispered and Sasha turned her attention to him while avoiding Pavel’s eyes on her.

“What?” she enquired confused.

Danil responded with a false smile, “Planning to get rid of Nikolai by setting him off by killing his so–called mate.”

“I smell your regret for ever planning this in the first place.” Pavel spoke without looking at Danil, whose smile quickly disappeared.

“I merely want to support Boris, who is certain about it.” Danil bowed his head and mumbled. “I feel like a monster considering removing my own family.”

“You still consider him a member of our family.” Pavel chuckled deeply before turning his attention from Sasha to Danil, who had his arms folded across his chest.

“He certainly has the last name Novikov, therefore sure, I still regard him.” Danil muttered solemnly before hurriedly leaving the room.

As soon as he was gone, Pavel went to the doors, shut them, and then he turned to face Sasha giving her a commanding look.

“You mentioned that she is not Nikolai’s mate just because he doesn’t have her scent?! She is a dragoness that Nikolai is obsessed with!” Pavel raised his voice and Sasha rose up, glaring at him.

“Without a scent, a lycan cannot identify someone as his or her mate!”

“But he can by his deeds! Did you not hear? He killed the guards who were dispatched to restrain her during the tournament! If he wanted to, he would have killed me for calling her a slave. His mate is that dragoness.”

The words Pavel said left Sasha speechless. “I’m unsure of your position; are you defending or opposing?” She had to inquire.

Pavel let out a heavy sigh and furiously rubbed his brow. “I’m not sure….. I simply believe that the moon goddess alone has control over all of this, not us. Additionally, I don’t want to interact with Nikolai outside of his obligations as the crown Alpha.”

Sasha scoffed. “Coward. You’re terrified of him.”

Pavel went cold. Sasha noticed and was absolutely shocked, and as Pavel turned to face her with a severe, dilated gaze, she took a closer look.

“There was something, Sasha, when I stared into his eyes. All I saw was severe darkness; not hate, not anger; all I saw was a pitch–black abyss, and I thought I was going to be sucked into it!” Pavel shook his head in terror as he mercilessly raked his fingers through his dark hair.

Sasha gulped. “What do you want me to do, brother? I think I’m caught up in all of this. There’s a hole… A piece of the puzzle is missing… I can feel a storm brewing.” She spoke, her voice trembling with fear and terror.

Pavel approached her and gave her a gentle head pat. “Do what you believe to be right, sister… I’ll finish mine. I am well aware of the ethereal and difficult fate that governs us… The lycans‘ existence.” He paused and grinned. “The werewolves are fortunate that their path is straight than

ours.”

Sasha forced a smile. “I know what to do, but I want you to avoid being involved in anything related to the impending war.”

Pavel’s grin shuddered. “You understand that I cannot do that. I must stand by Celestia and safeguard it at all costs.” His whisper caused Sasha’s

smile to tremble.

Sasha exhaled, “Very well,” knowing her brother would not take her advice. She was part witch and always knew what was right most of the time, but Pavel always did things his way even though he was aware of that. He was a devoted and watchful creature. He was always willing to end his life for Celestia and his family.

Ophelia was pleased that her dagger was still functional as her reflection was distinct and clear in the daylight, despite the fact that there was no sun to be seen in the sky other than threatening snow storm clouds. As she tightened her grip, the steel shimmered with golden light before being consumed by a raging golden fire.

“Perfect.” The flame went out as she laughed.

She stood at the archery range, a little bored, but she wanted to reflect.

Gentle footsteps, the whistle of the cold wind followed but she was quick to point her dagger at the neck of the lycan who was approaching her from behind.

In an effort to avoid looking into her eyes, he roared with a deep chuckle and elevated his head. Ophelia found him familiar. His slim, tall, skinny figure was fit, unlike Nikolai, who had a body that was gracefully and seductively constructed. His jet black hair was long, but it barely reached his shoulders, unlike Nikolai’s, which was as long as hers.

“Gods!” She exhaled and withdrew her dagger from his neck. Why was she thinking so much about Nikolai?

The lycan stepped back and smiled at her. She thought it was bogus even though it looked real.
