160 Dawn of gods (9)
Walking into the gorgeous blooming meadow at the mountain’s furthest crest, Nikolai was astounded at how surprised he was by the sight. His gaze swept about him, revealing that his body was still having trouble
acclimating to daylight and, in particular, the sun.
The wind was perfectly gusty. Not brusque, nor feeble. And they could see birds flying directly overhead.
Glancing at the sun goddess next to him, Nikolai grinned. She had her head cocked, her eyes closed, and was smiling broadly at him.
“I see you’re enjoying the view.” She opened her eyes, chuckling.
Her smile startled Nikolai, who blinked. His heart was racing, he could swear to it. “I am.” He looked away, his face tingling slightly from the heat.
“The blossoms are at their peak. It surprises me that their dread of you keeps them from falling asleep.” Ophelia whispered, refocusing his gaze on
her.
“Fear?” Nikolai was taken aback.
Ophelia gave a nod. “You constantly give off a very different aura than mine -one that is quite sinister and menacing, Are you attempting to repress that, perhaps?”
“Repress?” To Nikolai’s even greater amazement. Not that he was truly keeping himself down. He asked himself, “Could this be an unconscious
action?”
“Actually, I am glad about it.” Ophelia laughed and made her way to a spot among the gold roses. She took one out right away and aimed it at Nikolai.
Surprised, Nikolai stared at it. The way the golden rose complemented her

Ophelia looked at him expectantly as he studied the rose with her same curiosity. It seemed as though this was his first time seeing a rose of this kind

Ophelia’s eyes got smaller. “What are the usual?”
Nikolai gave her a smile. “Do you really want to know?”
Ophelia averted her gaze and shook her head. “Not really.”
Nikolai gave her a long look. He was momentarily dazed by the beautiful manner the wind blew her hazel gray hair. He observed her every move as she attempted to push her hair, which kept coming in contact with her face, then smiled and turned to face the golden rose he was holding. She resembled the rose exactly. Lovely, strong, yet delicate in a manner that was understandable to him.
“Storm, look at me.” Abruptly, he said.

“Can I ask you questions?” Coolly and courteously, Nikolai enquired.
“I… Feel free.”
Vith a nod, Nikolaj turned to face the golden rose and reclined back. “Why
you force your smiles?”
Luh?” Ophelia looked astonished.
You were talking to the cripple god when I observed this. You felt upset, angry, and depressed, which is probably how you always feel when you’re around him given you say he tends to….”
Ophelia swiftly covered her lips with her palm and closed her eyes to prevent herself from witnessing his reaction. “Smiles serve as masks. It’s simple to grasp.”
At her remarks, Nikolai, whose expression was obviously one of
astonishment, smiled. Her eyes opened to see the brilliance in his gaze as she felt a smile.
“Why put up a cheery front? I fail to see why.” He spoke ignoring her hand covering his mouth.
“I told you,” She pulled back her hand and lowered her eyes. “Because of the order, I must marry him. That obligation has bound us for as long as I can remember. I was very delighted at first, but then he betrayed my confidence and crushed my heart. I believed that I was the only one and I believed

Ophelia felt a wave of shock travel through her body. “W… what are you…”
Before she could say anything more, Nikolai hovered over her and leaned in. “This so–called order is so important to you sun gods and fire gods. And considering that you and I are among the highest ranked gods in existence, I find it puzzling that you are so afraid of this order since it was originally established for our own gain. In another way, your beliefs are causing you to view your betrothal as a law that needs to be followed, even if it is merely a straightforward marriage that would strengthen the bond between the fire and sun gods. I recognize that laws are formed in every civilization, whether it be celestial or not, but you cannot allow regulations to derail you from your happiness.”
Ophelia was stunned by those words so much that she felt her eyes well up with tears. She wasn’t really going to make them flow, though. The effect those words had… Her fixation on the “Order” was causing Nikolai to

Parting her lips, Ophelia trembled. The intoxicating sting of his touch.
“You understand, do you not?” Tracing his fingers down her lower lip, Nikolai muttered in a sensuous manner. “Decisions, thoughts, beliefs that satisfy our actions and behaviors is THE ORDER.”
“You…” Gripping his wrist, Ophelia trailed off.
“I?” Nikolai removed his fingers right away, his voice and eyes beaming with laughter. Her face was a vibrant red and her breath was a little short. He adored it. He cherished the way his touch had impacted her.
“I don’t have a choice.” Ophelia sighed and, for comfort, tightened her hold on Nikolai’s wrist. “I want to protect everyone including the beings I’ve created.”
Nikolai’s lips were pursed. “I understand.” And when he leaned his face further c
