133 Her nightmare, her punishment

133 Her nightmare, her punishment

Song recommendation: Teya Dora – Džanum

***

Ophelia was finding it difficult to adjust to her nightmares. She preferred being on the battlefield, where there was blood all around, bodies that were broken and bleeding, war screams, and the smell of perspiration and blood. It was respectable to die in war.

She woke up in the middle of nowhere, her naked feet kissed by the cold snow, and as soon as she opened her eyes, she realized that this was only the beginning of her nightmare.

Nothing except a wide country of snow could be seen when looking at her right side, and the same was true of her left.

“Where am I?” Ophelia felt her body shiver and wrapped her arms tightly over herself as she felt the brisk snow swooshing around her.

She heard a peculiar snap beneath the earth she was standing on, followed by the hasty ruffling of the snow.

She attempted to move her feet when startled but was unsuccessful. She tried one more before realizing that her feet were stuck to the snow.

“No, no, what’s going on?” When a hand coated in golden scales emerged from the gold and grabbed her ankle, she cried and screamed. And as a second hand, again covered in golden scales, suddenly appeared from the earth and grabbed her second ankle, she sprung to her feet,

simultaneously screaming.

She sprang away in relief as her legs suddenly felt free, grateful that their hold wasn’t tight. However, she started to run away, exhaling heavily in

the hopes of waking up from this nightmare rather than remaining motionless to determine what kind of nightmare it was.

“Ophelia!” Within a split second, Ophelia was engulfed in flames after hearing a distorted voice thunder. The enormous, snow-covered landscape entirely changed into a realm of fire.

Ophelia let out a loud cry as she felt the heat of the fire. Although it wasn’t burning her, the heat was unbearably painful. She managed to keep her tears from streaming.

The sky above her seemed extremely ominous and appeared as though blood was about to pour out.

“Ophelia!” Ophelia recognized the thundering voice as the fire god when it repeated itself.

“What are you doing?!” Ophelia screamed as the agonizing pain made it difficult for her to breathe. This suffering was beyond the capacity of any average human, not even a Novikov.

“This is your retribution for disobeying me! Your retribution for

disobeying my instructions!” The heat rose along with the flames, and the voice thundered with wrath.

Ophelia dropped to her knees and put her palm on her chest as she struggled to breathe from her own scream.

“Your agreement to mate with the lycan is treason! If you make it through this, I won’t let go until you pass away knowing that your suffering is because you trusted him.”

“What?!” Ophelia let out a cough. She had to cover her mouth with a hand as the cough slowly lingered and intensified into a potentially harmful situation. Her body froze in astonishment when she realized she was coughing up blood, but the cough quickly picked back up and became

quite forceful.

“You can either die here or in his hands, Ophelia.” Ophelia coughed more as the apparent wrath in the speaker’s voice grew along with the fire. “You can either let the gods take his life or you can perish here.”

She was baffled as to why the gods were so enraged at her and Nikolai’s union. Was she actually going to pass away here? She was aware that if she passed away in her dream, she would also pass away in real life.

Both the pain and the intensity of the fire were growing.

“Would you prefer a choice that would release you from this punishment?” A question was abruptly voiced.

Ophelia coughed loudly once more before lifting her head to stare up at the sky. Her eyes immediately exhibited bleeding veins that ruptured and leaked blood into them. Her blood-smeared lips that were parted trembled. She wanted to say something, but as she felt her throat tighten, she just nodded.

“Would you prefer to exchange this punishment?”

“How do you exchange?” When she finally managed to talk, she coughed out more blood. She let out a loud, agonizing scream and slammed her hand on her chest as she felt her heart briefly stop.

“I AM NOT GOING TO DIE HERE!” She shouted and let out a shaky breath.

“If you do not want to die, you just have to say the words “I agree to the exchange.” Say it.”

“What are you talking about?” Ophelia inhaled deeply. When her heart stopped again, her eyelids seemed heavier than usual, and she slammed her hand against her chest forcefully before screaming in frustration.

“The lycan will take your place, and he’ll die here.”

Ophelia laughed out loud at that comment before sternly coughing. Her mouth erupted in yet another gush of blood as she took a ragged breath.

“I find it amusing that you believe I will consent to that.” She said, giggling. “Nikolai won’t suffer any harm as long as I’m still alive. I told you that I am the author of my own destiny, so why won’t you leave me alone?

She coughed again and her heart stopped again. She slammed her chest, gasping heavily with widened eyes and finally, she let the tears flow out of her eyes.

“Sooner or later, you will come to me and you will make that sacrifice.”

“Why….” She let out a shaky breath. “Why is this happening to me?”

She and Nikolai had recently made up, and they had urged one another to act as though nothing like this ever happens to them. They were going to get married, stand by one other in battle, and protect one another, but she was already in the process of passing away. Because she had fallen in love with an evil, she was being punished.

She was aware that was the reason, but she couldn’t help but question. “Why… Why is this happening to me?!”

He was the antagonist of her tale; he represented a fire that, if she touched it, would undoubtedly burn her; Nevertheless, she was taking the risk; she wanted to take the risk; and she was prepared to sacrifice herself to save him.

She felt her heart stop once more.

“Not like this!” She grunted and slammed her chest even harder. “I’m not going to die for him like this!”

This wasn’t an honorable death. She wasn’t going to die for him like this!
