The Lycan's Forbidden Mate novel Chapter 130

130 Suicide in the castle

Hours passed.

Rhaziel withdrew to his castle chamber to get some rest, but as he did, he suddenly realized that the guardian beast was always terrorizing the kitchen at this hour of the night.

He left the chamber and made his way to the castle’s main kitchen where he saw Nikolai feeding Pain some raw meat.

Rhaziel decided to leave the two so he could spend the rest of the evening alone without having to look after the insane lycan with family issues.

But who wasn’t dealing with family issues?

Shaking his head, he proceeded past the entrance of the castle’s main sitting room and caught sight of a certain dark fairy pacing around out of the corner of his eye.

Reluctantly, he stopped, entered the room, and waited near the entrance without knowing whether to wave at her or say something to jolt her from her reverie and cease pacing.

Esmeralda, though, caught sight of him and stopped walking, giving him a frown. “What are you doing here?”

“Sincerely, that is the question I meant to ask you.” Dully, Rhaziel uttered. “Regardless of whether or not you feel drowsy, I encourage you to go back to your room.”

Esmeralda snorted. “Huh?! The castle is literally awake.”

“True.” Rhaziel nodded after realizing his tiredness was the sole reason he was feeling sleepy. He wasn’t certain whether Nikolai had slept recently

either.

Esmeralda sat on the cushion with her hands in her hair, sighing in despair as she did so.

Rhaziel cocked his head and gazed at her bewildered. “You seem to be

upset.”

“And you’re only becoming aware of it?” Esmeralda scowled, examining

him.

Rhaziel shrugged his shoulders. “I was unsure of how to ask you.”

Esmeralda frowned up at him. “Ask away. No need to give it much thought.

Esmeralda couldn’t help but gaze at Rhaziel in complete disbelief as he nodded slowly, like a little child just learning the fundamentals of math. Although she had a clear image of Rhaziel as Nikolai’s babysitter, she was fully aware that he was a very potent demon.

She couldn’t place it, but he appeared gentle yet dark. She thought back immediately to the Luna ball, when they had danced together without saying a word and respectfully parted ways despite the calm atmosphere that surrounded them.

“Um..” In an effort to prevent Esmeralda from feeling uncomfortable, Rhaziel drewled as he approached her, sat down next to her, but moved a little bit farther away. Was he the one feeling uncomfortable? He couldn’t

tell.

There was a relaxed silence that followed as the room’s temperature was at the ideal level of warmth.

Esmeralda fidgeted uncomfortably, gazing at Rhaziel, who was still examining her with utter curiosity. She could see he wanted to say something because he parted his lips, but he quickly shut them and turned his head away. He struck her as terribly strange.

“The moonstone.” She exhaled sharply and turned her head away from

him.

Rhaziel snapped his gaze to her, fazed. “What about the moonstone?”

Esmeralda turned to face him, startled by the earnestness in his voice, and then she stutter-stepped to her feet. “As you are aware, I was sent to steal the moonstone so that Lumina could establish a peaceful force with Fireria. However, it is clear that only my father and Ophelia’s father want this for themselves, even at the risk of causing us, the dark fairies, to break our alliance with the wolves and replace it with one with the Firerian dragons.”

Rhaziel gave a nod. It was clear. Royals who crave power. He loathed them.

Esmeralda groaned. She was relieved that he was paying attention to her. “In reality, I believe there is more to King Rodion’s desire for the

moonstone.”

“Do you think that he intends to harm Ophelia?” Raising his brow, Rhaziel inquired.

“The moonstone has a remarkable power that manifests at night. It alters one’s strength based on which species-my kind, lycans, werewolves, vampires, and even your kind—becomes stronger at night. In terms of dragons, it really can’t help.” Rhaziel stroked his chin as Esmeralda explained.

“He must be seeking it for his own benefit. For the Novikov mole, most likely.” He slowly shook his head in response. “They are after Nikolai.”

Esmeralda’s pupils grew larger. “How did you figure…

“You are aware Nikolai is a lycan with demonic abilities. He is half a demon and already a manifestation of evil, which makes it easier to understand why his skills mesh so well with his feelings and personality. They intend to utilize him as a tool and a puppet they can manipulate.” Rhaziel briefly

explained.

Despite not fully comprehending what he was saying, Esmeralda nodded. “Although I feel awful for him, is he not strong enough to look after

himself?” She had to inquire.

Esmeralda started to blink quickly as Rhaziel grinned. He then got to his feet, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and turned to face the door.

“What brings you to Celestia?” He questioned dryly.

Esmeralda turned her head away from him in an attempt to prevent a scowl from appearing on her face, but she failed and heaved a heavy sigh instead. “I want to protect them and I want to become powerful.”

Rhaziel questioned why she was gazing away from him as he turned to face her, lifting his brows. “Protect whom? Why do you wish to become more powerful?”

Esmeralda grinned and turned to face him. When she smiled, Rhaziel

furrowed his brows even farther.

“You are a very inquisitive demon.” She teased

Rhaziel murmured, “I pose inquiries that demand immediate answers.”

“Who doesn’t?” While Rhaziel anxiously observed her in anticipation of her response, Esmeralda chuckled, delicately adjusting her hair. “How do you picture my life in the palace… I am the fifth daughter and the offspring of a concubine?”

Rhaziel’s brows drooped. “Disgusting.”

“Exactly.” Esmeralda sighed and opened her arms wide.

“You intend to protect Ophelia and Nikolai,” asked Rhaziel, who was still keeping his eye on her. “You want to become more powerful because…”

“I intend to usurp the throne.” Esmeralda smiled assuredly as she spoke.

Rhaziel was startled. “You…”

“And I’ll protect as well!” She giggled, poking his nose then walked past him, out of the room.

Rhaziel remained motionless for a time before frantically wiping his nose.
