The day Ophelia spent with Yulia Novikov was much more peaceful than she had anticipated.

The castle included a spa facility, and Yulia’s maids, who were surprisingly warm and hospitable, were there as well. Although she didn’t find them to be stiff at all, she couldn’t help but wonder whether Yulia’s presence might have had an impact.

The old age of the servants was advantageous for Yulia.

After the spa, The servants took care of them and dressed them for the evening.

The oldest maid present, an omega wolf in her middle years, was carefully brushing Ophelia’s hair, removing any knots as she sat on the bed wearing a deep blue nightgown.

The second maid was getting Yulia ready while she was chatting and blabbering at her.

The maids laughed, following her every word. She was obviously

accustomed to her chatter.

Once they were finished, they brought in dinner and remained in the

room until Ophelia and Yulia had finished before leaving and wishing them good night.

Later, they climbed into bed, and Yulia was the first to drift out silently.

Ophelia swiveled to the side and peered at the lamp on the bedside table. The space was really well-lit.

She was accustomed to sleeping in the dark, whereas Yulia seemed to dislike it.

She tried to sleep but she couldn’t. Not because of the bright room, but rather because every time she tried to give in, her future husband kept popping up in the shadows of her eyes.

Family-a so

a source of joy and of sadness. In a few days, Nikolai was going to become her family, but right now, she wasn’t even with him.

She sat down slowly and slapped her cheeks quickly with her palm. “Calm down, Ophelia.”

She then forced herself out of bed and started to make her way to the door. Opening it, she entered the corridor, which was equally as bright and serene as Yulia’s room.

Her legs began to move independently, and she became lost in her thoughts, which caused a pain in her chest.

When she thought about Nikolai calling that witch his mate, her throat dried up and she started to feel hurt. He promised to explain, but he didn’t!

She took a deep breath. “I should find him,” She wanted to put things right because she disliked having conflicting emotions like uncertainty, rage, and longing.

Her pace increased as she tried to push aside the possibility that he might be thinking about her just as much as she was. What sort of feelings would he have if he slept in a bed without her? Was he remorseful? Was he

awake? Was he in the castle at that time?

She hurried over to Nikolai’s room and pushed the door to find it bright but empty. She raced to the bathroom to find that the water was dried up, indicating that it had been abandoned. There was also no indication of

garments in the closet.

“Has he moved into his actual chamber?”

Ophelia hurried out of the room and dashed down the hallway, a flight of stairs, and into another hallway. She made advantage of her speed, and in no time at all, she was standing at the throne room’s entrance.

She moved cautiously forward, oblivious to the guards who were posted on the flanks.

She entered the throne, and her bare foot landed on the long, scratchy black carpet.

“Forgive us! Please Alpha!” She overheard a deep voice screaming in utter

terror.

She stopped walking and raised her head toward the throne where Nikolai

was seated.

His legs were crossed over one another, his elbow was at a comfortable angle on the armrest, and his cheek was resting on his fist. He had a blank expression on his face.

His eyes were closed and his tousled hair was a stark contrast to how it had been styled the morning before. He had obviously run his fingers through it countless times.

Regardless, the throne suited him perfectly.

Like he was born for it.

The men who were in front of him shivered in fear as they attempted to guess what was going through his thoughts and whether or not he was

awake.

When they smelled her, they slowly turned to face her and widened their eyes as if they had just witnessed a ghost.

Ophelia regarded them with a perplexed gaze.

Why were they gazing at the dragoness as if they had never seen one before?

Her lips quirked and she moved forward one more step.

“Let’s apprehend her and show her to our Alpha; perhaps he will then pardon us.” Everyone in the group nodded in agreement when one of them said it, with the exception of one who continued to look at her as if he had actually seen a ghost.

Ophelia was dumbfounded by their foolishness and turned to look at Nikolai, wondering if he had heard them. Did he actually fall asleep?

She stood motionless as they started to surge towards her. Did they actually intend to harm her?

“Ah ha!” One of them grabbed her arm, making her feel irritated.

Ophelia’s eyes changed into their golden reptilian appearance. “Unhand me!” Her eyes widened, but she jerked back in agony as he dug his claws into her arm.

Nikolai’s eyes snapped open, darkening with rage.

In amazement and panic, the men backed away from Ophelia, but the one who was holding her was immobile.

When Nikolai stood up, he shot dark mist out of him and then

disappeared from view, reappearing behind the man. “How dare you harm my wife?” He growled angrily, his anger boiling over.

Ophelia regarded him with widened eyes as she took in the anger in his speech.

“Wife?” The man’s face turned pale, and he tremblingly let go of Ophelia’s

arm.

Without saying a word, Nikolai grabbed hold of his neck and yanked it from his body.

Just as he turned to kill the other men, Ophelia quickly embraced him, pressing her head against his chest. “Don’t.”

Nikolai calmed down immediately and wrapped his arm around her.

The guys who were still alive, including the one who had been frozen earlier, all fled for their lives, which were doomed to end whether they liked it or not.

“Ophelia.” The deep flow of his speech caused his chest to resonate.

Ophelia took a gulp and moved away from him right away.
