Chapter 179

The moment Rain pointed the pistol at the officer’s head, every last trace of doubt disappeared.

No one believed he was innocent anymore. An innocent man wouldn’t snatch a police officer’s weapon and threaten to kill him in front of hundreds of witnesses.

A wave of panic swept through the banquet hall.

“My God…”

“He really is the murderer.”

“So everything the police said is true.”

Victoria’s legs weakened beneath her.

Her face had become completely devoid of color, while her mind buzzed uncontrollably. Every single charge was a first-degree felony.

She couldn’t believe that the man she had trusted, defended, and proudly introduced as her fiancé was actually a fugitive living under his dead brother’s identity.

She wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

Rain ignored everyone’s reactions as he tightened his grip on the pistol.

His expression had become savage.

“I’ll say it one last time,” he growled. “Nobody moves. The first person who takes another step will watch his boss die with a bullet through his heart.” 1

The officer trapped in front of him remained perfectly still. The surrounding tactical officers also

hesitated.

No one wanted to risk the commander’s life. Rain slowly backed away while dragging the officer with

him.

“That’s right,” he sneered. “Keep your guns where they are.”

His eyes swept across the room. “I’ll be leaving now. Anyone stupid enough to follow me can collect his corpse afterward.”

The guests instinctively retreated, terrified of provoking him. Mr. Zed clenched his fists helplessly.

Rain smiled victoriously. Just as he was about to reach the exit… Marcus moved.

He didn’t charge recklessly.

Instead, he waited until Rain’s attention shifted toward the officers on the opposite side.

That tiny moment was all he needed. Like a bolt of lightning, Marcus shot forward.

Before Rain could even react, Marcus’s hand seized Rain’s wrist with terrifying precision.

Crack!

A sharp sound echoed through the hall as Marcus twisted his wrist violently.

“Yaaaaa!”.

The pistol flew out of Rain’s hand before anyone even realized what had happened.

Rain’s eyes widened in horror.

Before he could recover, Marcus drove his shoulder into Rain’s chest.

Bang!

Rain was sent crashing onto the marble floor.

The entire banquet hall erupted in shocked gasps.

“What speed!”

“I didn’t even see him move!”

“How did he disarm him so easily?”

Rain struggled to get back to his feet, his face twisted with rage.

“You bastard!”

He threw a desperate punch.

Marcus calmly leaned aside, avoiding it effortlessly before driving the butt of the pistol straight into

Rain’s face.

Thud!

Blood instantly burst from Rain’s nose.

He staggered backward, but Marcus showed no intention of stopping.

Rain tried to lunge at him again.

Marcus answered with a brutal kick to his abdomen.

Boom!

Rain folded over in pain before collapsing onto one knee.

Marcus grabbed him by the collar and smashed the pistol’s grip across his forehead once more.

Bang!

Rain crashed flat onto the floor. Even then, he still tried to crawl away.

Marcus mercilessly stomped on his shoulder, pinning him to the ground.

Rain screamed in agony as all resistance disappeared.

Only then did the tactical officers rush forward.

Within seconds, they surrounded Rain from every direction.

His arms were twisted behind his back before heavy-duty handcuffs were locked onto his wrists.

“Rain Derek,” the lead officer said coldly as he regained his composure, “you are under arrest for murder, identity theft, kidnapping, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm, and taking a police officer hostage.”

Rain lowered his head. This time he was just holding where Marcus had hit him, he wasn’t even able to move his body. He groaned. 1

The officers dragged him toward the exit while the guests watched in silence.

“I can’t believe someone like that attended business banquets pretending to be someone else.”

Mr. Zed slowly let out a long breath.

“I’m fortunate I never formally announced any collaboration with him,” he said quietly. “Otherwise, I would have dragged both my reputation and my company into this disaster.”

His gaze then shifted toward Marcus. A smile of admiration appeared on his face.

“If it weren’t for Mr. Marcus, this situation could have ended in tragedy.”

The surrounding guests nodded one after another.

“What incredible courage.”

“He saved that officer’s life.”

“His reflexes are unbelievable.”

“I’ve never seen anyone disarm an armed criminal that quickly.”

Before long, the entire hall was filled with praise for Marcus, while Victoria stood rooted in place, listening to every word as the last bit of pride she had left crumbled before her eyes.

As Rain was dragged away by the police, the tense atmosphere inside the banquet hall slowly dissolved. The guests who had been standing at a distance gradually gathered around Marcus, their expressions filled with admiration.

After witnessing everything that had happened, no one looked at him the same way anymore. From the priceless birthday gift he had prepared to the courage he displayed in subduing an armed criminal, Marcus had earned everyone’s respect.

Several prominent businessmen stepped forward with warm smiles. “Mr. Marcus, your composure today was truly admirable,” one of them said sincerely.

“Not many people could remain so calm in such a dangerous situation. Miss Julia is fortunate to have a fiancé like you.”

Julia couldn’t help blushing slightly when she heard those words. Standing beside Marcus, she wore a bright smile that she couldn’t hide. For the first time that evening, she felt genuinely proud as countless influential guests praised the man standing beside her.

At the same time, a different set of whispers began spreading through the crowd. Many guests slowly turned their eyes toward Victoria, who still stood frozen near the stage with a pale face.

“Then what about her?” someone whispered. “She was engaged to a monster all along.”

Another guest shook his head in disbelief. “She kept insulting Mr. Marcus only moments ago while proudly showing off that criminal. Looking back now, it’s unbelievable.”

A woman frowned before adding, “Maybe she knew something about his crimes all along. Otherwise, why was she so desperate to defend him?”

Those words struck Victoria like sharp needles. Her lips trembled, but she couldn’t bring herself to answer. She knew there was nothing she could say that would change anyone’s opinion now. Lowering her head in humiliation, she quietly slipped out of the banquet hall while the whispers and contemptuous gazes followed her all the way to the exit.

Once she was gone, Mr. Zed walked over to Marcus with a satisfied smile. “Young man,” he said warmly,” today you’ve shown everyone not only generosity through your gift, but also courage in the face of danger. A man with both character and ability deserves respect.” He paused before continuing,” Therefore, the support and collaboration I originally intended to give Alfred Enterprises will now be given to Miss Julia and her company instead.”

Sweedy immediately clapped her hands with excitement. “Yes! I love that decision, Father,” she said happily. “Miss Julia deserves it far more.”

Julia’s beautiful eyes widened before they became misty with emotion. She looked at Marcus with heartfelt gratitude, her smile brighter than ever as she realized everything had changed because of him.
