Riley had just come down from the executive floor and was about to drive off when her phone rang.

The caller ID read Dr. Jenson.

She stood by her car and answered. "Dr. Jenson, is everything alright?"

"How is your recovery coming along?"

"I'm doing well. Thank you for checking in on me."

The Landon family had suppressed the news of her severe postpartum hemorrhage. As far as the public knew, she had simply gone into labor ten days early, which was perfectly normal.

"The final roster for the residency program at Statenbury First Medical Center is going to be locked in over the next few days. I know you probably don't want to go, but I still had to call and ask."

Riley had almost completely forgotten about it.

She had previously turned down the opportunity because she hadn't wanted to be separated from Pierce and their newborn. A two-year residency in another city would definitely strain their marriage.

"Dr. Jenson, I want to go."

"I see. Well then... wait, you want to go?"

"Yes. It's an incredible opportunity. I shouldn't pass it up."

"What about your family?"

"Don't worry, Dr. Jenson. I'll have everything sorted out."

"That's a relief. Make some time in the next couple of days to come down to the hospital and fill out the official application."

"Will do." Since she hadn't yet secured the evidence of Pierce's infidelity and neglect, Riley needed to know the timeline. "Dr. Jenson, when exactly does the program in Statenbury begin?"

"The administrative process will take about two or three months. By the time it's finalized, your maternity leave will be over anyway. I'll let you know the exact start date once the official notice comes down."

Two or three months was more than enough time. "Perfect. Thank you, Dr. Jenson."

Just as Riley hung up the phone, a stunned voice echoed from behind her. "You're doing a residency in Statenbury?"
