"You wouldn't dare!"
Smack!
Riley backhanded her across the other cheek. "Try me."
Seraphina bit her lip, glaring at Riley with absolute hatred.
Riley offered a mocking smirk. "That's much better. It suits you. Don't you get exhausted playing the innocent little victim all day?"
Seraphina's face was flushed with rage, her fingers trembling. She dug her nails so hard into her palms that she relied on the sharp pain to suppress her fury. She forced the words through gritted teeth. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Too disgusted to engage any further, Riley got into her car and peeled out of the garage.
Watching the car disappear up the exit ramp, Seraphina's forced composure instantly shattered. Pure venom flared in her eyes. Through clenched teeth, she hissed, "Riley Vance, I will destroy you! One day, I'm going to make you drop to your knees and beg for mercy!"
At Golden Sands Cove, in the dining room.
Pierce kept glancing at Riley as he ate.
When Riley finished her meal, she set down her fork and looked right at him. "Is there something on my face? You keep staring at me."
Pierce put his fork down and handed her a napkin. "Ethan called me this afternoon. He said someone hit his sister."
Ethan didn't call him. Seraphina had definitely run crying to Pierce herself.
But since he had gone through the trouble of crafting the excuse, Riley played along. She took the napkin, wiped her mouth, and said bluntly, "I did."
Pierce frowned. "Why would you hit her?"
"I said I wouldn't interfere with your professional dealings with her. That doesn't mean I have to tolerate her getting in my face and bragging about how your business and personal ties make the two of you inseparable."
"You were jealous?"
"Am I not allowed to be?"
The lingering anxiety in Pierce's chest evaporated completely. Deep down, she still cared about him seeing Seraphina. She was just pretending to be understanding so she wouldn't make things difficult for him.
A faint smile tugged at his lips, and he reached out to gently hold her hand. "Of course you are. I know you've been put in a tough spot. I already talked to Ethan. I told him to put the previous manager back on the joint venture. She won't be coming to the office for business anymore."
