Chapter 68
Eleanor POV
&
I woke slowly, consciousness returning in gentle waves. The first thing I noticed was warmth-Derek’s chest against mine, his arm draped possessively around my waist. For a moment, I kept my eyes closed, savoring the feeling of our naked bodies intertwined.
Early morning light filtered through the gaps in our bedroom curtains, casting thin golden lines across the rumpled sheets. The air still held traces of last night’s passion, a lingering scent that brought heat to my cheeks as memories flooded back.
Could you try to love me, even a little? Or am I really nothing to you?
My own desperate words echoed in my mind. I had laid myself bare before Derek, stripped of all pretense. And he had responded-
not with words, but with a physical hunger that still left me breathless to recall.
I shifted slightly, wondering if I could slip away without waking him, when I felt his breathing change. The arm around my waist
tightened almost imperceptibly, his fingers making small, unconscious circles against my bare skin. He was awake-had been for
some time, I suspected.
I opened my eyes to find him already looking at me, his blue-gray eyes intense, studying me with an expression I couldn’t quite
decipher. Last night’s passion hadn’t been replaced by his usual cold detachment, but something else-something deeper, more
contemplative.
“Hi, I whispered, suddenly shy despite our nakedness and everything we’d shared.
Derek s hand moved from my waist, trailing up my bare spine with deliberate slowness. I shivered as his thumb traced circles on my
shoulder blade, then slid to my shoulder, his fingers warm and sure against my skin. His eyes never left mine as his hand continued
its journey along my exposed body. The touch of his fingers against my skin sent electricity down my spine.
“Derek, I breathed, uncertain if I was asking him to stop or begging him to continue.
He leaned forward, his lips finding the sensitive spot just below my ear. The gentle pressure of his mouth on my neck made me
gasp, especially when his teeth grazed the exact spot where he’d left a mark last night. His hand continued its exploration across my
bare skin, each touch igniting sparks beneath my skin.
“You’re beautiful, he murmured against my neck, his breath hot against my skin.
His kisses trailed lower, moving along my collarbone to my chest. He took my nipple between his teeth, the sensation sending a jolt
of pleasure through my body. I arched against him, my fingers clutching the sheets beneath me.
Derek’s hand slid down my stomach, his fingers tracing patterns on my skin. I couldn’t help the small sound that escaped me as his hand dipped lower, his touch teasing and deliberate. My body responded instantly, betraying how much I wanted him despite all my
reservations.
I reached for him, my fingers digging into his shoulders, pulling him closer. Our legs intertwined, and I could feel his desire

pressing against me. His hand moved to my thigh, fingers tracing patterns on the sensitive skin there, edging closer to where
wanted him most.
My breathing became ragged as his touch grew bolder. I whispered his name, my voice unrecognizable to my own ears. The intensity
in his eyes was almost frightening-this wasn’t the controlled, distant Derek I knew. This was someone else entirely, someone whose
hunger matched my own.
Just as I felt myself surrendering completely to his touch, I placed my hand on his chest, gently pushing him back. Despite my
body’s protests, I needed answers more than I needed release.
“Derek,” I said, my voice steadier than I expected. “We can’t keep doing this.”
I sat up, trying to mask the vulnerability I felt. “Are we going to continue ignoring what’s happening between us?”
I looked directly into his eyes, searching for any sign that last night had meant something to him. My heart hammered in my chest,
hope and fear battling for dominance.
