The CEO’s Unspoken Love

Chapter 229

Eleanor POV

The air inside the tent was warm, heavy with the scent of pine and the lingering smoke from our campfire. The starlight barely penetrated the thin nylon fabric now, leaving us in a cocoon of near darkness, where every touch, every breath, seemed amplified. Outside, the Blue Hills Reservation whispered its ancient song-a soft rustle of leaves in the night breeze, the distant hoot of an owl, the occasional snap of a twig under some unseen creature’s step. The sounds wove a fragile barrier between us and the rest of the world, as if this small, confined space was a sanctuary carved out of time itself. Derek’s lips lingered on mine from that last kiss, a slow, deliberate press that carried the weight of my promise-I would never take him for granted. Not this. Not us.

My fingers still rested against his cheek, feeling the faint stubble there, the warmth of his skin beneath my touch. His hand

its tightened at my waist, pulling me closer, until there was no space left between us. The sleeping bag rustled softly beneath synthetic texture a quiet reminder of where we were-miles from the polished floors of Beacon Hill, from the cold formalities of the Wells family, from the life we’d been forced into three years ago. Here, in this untamed stretch of nature, it was just us. Just this

moment, suspended in the vast, indifferent night.

“Eleanor,” he whispered, my name a low rumble in his chest. His voice held something new, a raw edge that sent a shiver down my spine, as if the very air around us vibrated with it. His hand slid up my back, fingers splaying wide, possessive yet tender, as if he needed to feel every inch of me to believe I was real, to anchor himself in this fragile, fleeting now..

His eyes darkened further, a flicker of relief passing through them before he kissed me again, harder, more urgent. His hand moved higher, pushing the fabric of my sweater up, exposing skin to the cool night air that seemed to seep through the tent’s thin barrier. I arched into his touch, my own hands fumbling with the buttons of his flannel shirt, needing to feel him, to erase any last barrier between us. The buttons gave way one by one, revealing the hard planes of his chest, the faint scars from the accident still visible even in the dim light. My fingers traced one jagged line near his shoulder, a stark reminder of how close I’d come to losing him, how fiercely I’d fought to keep him by my side during those endless hospital nights.

He caught my hand, pressing a kiss to my palm, then to the underside of my wrist, his lips warm and deliberate, lingering as if mapping every inch. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered against my skin, the words so soft they might have been a thought spoken aloud. But they struck me deep, unraveling the last of my restraint, filling the hollow spaces I’d carried for so long with a warmth I hadn’t known I needed.

Our movements grew more frantic, shedding layers with a quiet urgency, the rustle of fabric and the soft thud of boots against the tent floor blending with the distant murmur of the forest. My sweater joined his shirt in a tangled heap, the cool air raising/ goosebumps on my skin only to be chased away by the heat of his hands. When there was nothing left between us, he paused, his forehead resting against mine, his hands framing my face with a tenderness that belied the raw need in his eyes. “I love you,” he said, the words rough, unguarded, as if they were pulled from the deepest part of him, a confession as much as a vow.

“I love you,” I echoed, my voice trembling with the weight of it, the truth of it settling into every corner of me. Then his lips were on mine again, and the world narrowed to the heat of his body, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, the way his hands moved with a purpose that felt both reverent and desperate.
