The CEO’s Unspoken Love (Eleanor and Derek) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

Olivia nodded dutifully, wiping away tears with her free hand. “I’ll take care of her.”

“I know you will, the nurse said with a gentle smile. “If she needs anything, or if you notice any changes in her condition, press the

call button immediately.”

With that, she left the room, closing the door softly behind her. The space fell into relative silence, punctuated only by the soft

beeping of machines monitoring my vital signs.

Olivia stared at me for a long moment, fresh tears welling in her eyes. ‘You’ve been unconscious for almost twenty hours, Elle, the

whispered. “When I got the call, I nearly had a heart attack.”

She squeezed my hand tighter. “I’ve been here all night. They couldn’t make me leave, not even when visiting hours ended.” A small, watery smile appeared on her face. I might have threatened to create a scene if they tried to kick me out.”

Typical Olivia. Always fighting for those she loved, even against hospital regulations.

I managed a weak smile in response, though it felt more like a grimace. Questions swirled in my mind, but one burned brighter than

all others.

Derek.

The name triggered a flood of fragmented memories-Derek’s voice, low and intense. The gentle pressure of his lips against mine. Headlights flooding the car interior. The horrifying sound of metal crushing against metal. Derek’s hand reaching toward me

protectively as the world spun out of control.

Panic surged through me, my heart rate spiking enough to make one of the monitors beep in alarm. I forced my eyes fully open, suddenly alert. My right hand darted out, grabbing Olivia’s arm with surprising strength given my condition.

I tried to speak his name, but only a harsh exhale escaped my raw throat. Frustration welled within me as I shook my head slightly

and pointed at my throat, silently communicating my inability to speak.

Olivia’s expression shifted, understanding dawning in her eyes. “You want to know about Derek… Her voice trailed off, uncertainty

replacing the relief that had been there moments before.

I nodded emphatically, ignoring the stab of pain the movement caused. My eyes searched hers, pleading for information.

Olivia bit her lip, suddenly avoiding my gaze. “Elle, you need to focus on recovering right now,” she said carefully. The doctor said

you need absolute rest and-

I shook my head again, more forcefully this time. No. I needed to know. Now.

We can talk about everything later, when you re stronger, Olivia continued, clearly trying to change the subject. The important

thing is that you re awake and-

Chapter 199

I pulled my hand from hers and pressed my trembling fingers against the hospital sheet. With deliberate movements, I traced

letters: T-E-L-L M-E.

Olivia watched my fingers, her expression growing more troubled. She took a deep breath. “Elle, please… just worry about yourself

right now, okay?”

Tears of frustration and fear began to well in my eyes. Why wouldn’t she tell me? What was she hiding? A terrible coldness spread through my chest, far more painful than any of my physical injuries.

With monumental effort, I raised my right hand and gripped Olivia’s wrist, surprising both of us with the strength I managed to summon. My eyes, which had been pleading before, hardened with determination.

I concentrated all my energy, forcing sound through my damaged throat. The result was barely audible, a raspy whisper of air

shaped into his name: “De…rek…”

The effort sent pain lancing through my throat, but I didn’t care. I needed to know.

Olivia’s eyes filled with fresh tears. “Elle…” she whispered, shaking her head slightly.

My lips trembled as I silently mouthed the words: ‘Tell me. A single tear escaped, sliding down my cheek and onto the crisp white

hospital pillow.

Olivia looked at me, her shoulders sagging slightly as she recognized the unwavering determination in my eyes. I would not rest, would not heal, would not do anything until I knew what had happened to Derek.

Outside the window, cold January sunlight streamed into the hospital room, casting a deceptively warm glow across my pale face. The light highlighted the tears tracking down my cheeks, as I waited, heart pounding, for news about the man who had asked me to start over with him just before our world had shattered.
