The CEO’s Unspoken Love (Eleanor and Derek) novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141

&

Derek didn’t look up from his book, casually turning a page. “I haven’t read in a while. I needed some intellectual nourishment.

I rolled my eyes, immediately recognizing his game. “Your grandmother specifically said that if you bothered me again, she’d disown you as her grandson. So before I get upset, I suggest you go back to your own room.”

Derek finally looked up, his blue-gray eyes meeting mine with an intensity that still made my stomach flutter, despite everything. “Grandmother didn’t say I couldn’t read, did she? Don’t you know reading after dinner aids digestion? The corner of his mouth

quirked up in that infuriating half-smile.

“You’re doing this on purpose,” I stated flatly.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he replied, feigning innocence as he returned to his book.

I sighed, grabbing my nightclothes and heading to the bathroom. When I emerged, changed and ready for bed, Derek remained

exactly where he’d been, seemingly engrossed in his reading.

I climbed into bed, pointedly ignoring him as I pulled out my phone. With deliberate slowness, I turned the volume up to maximum

and played a heavy rock song, the aggressive beats filling the room.

Derek’s eyebrows furrowed. “You’ll disturb Grandmother’s rest with that noise.”

I smiled sweetly. “The house has excellent soundproofing, and I happen to enjoy playing my music loudly. If you enjoy reading after

dinner, then I enjoy listening to music before sleep.” I couldn’t keep the challenge from my voice.

Derek knew I was doing this intentionally. He closed his book and approached the bed, plucking my phone from my hands with

swift precision. He lowered the volume to a reasonable level and switched to a soft jazz piece that I knew was one of his favorites.

“Your music taste is still stuck a decade ago, isn’t it?” I teased, reaching to reclaim my phone.

As I stretched for it, Derek caught my wrist, his grip gentle but firm. In one fluid motion, he pressed me back against the pillows,

my phone forgotten on the nightstand. My breath caught as he hovered over me, close enough that I could smell his cologne-

sandalwood and something uniquely him.

“Close your eyes,” he murmured, his voice low. “Listen. The rhythm of this song is like a heartbeat.” His lips brushed my forehead,

feather-light.

I wanted to resist, to push him away and maintain the walls I’d so carefully constructed. But instead, I found myself closing my

eyes, allowing the music to wash over me, along with the warmth of Derek’s presence.

His lips found mine in a kiss that started gently but quickly deepened with a hunger that matched my own. His fingers threaded

through my hair, each touch careful yet filled with longing. I knew I should stop this, that we were only complicating an already

messy situation, but I surrendered to the desire that had always simmered between us.

Chapter 141

Derek’s hands moved with deliberate slowness as he unbuttoned his shirt, never breaking our kiss. In the pale moonlight filtering

through the curtains, we found each other again, our bodies remembering what our minds tried to forget.

“You’re like a book I can’t put down, Derek whispered against my skin between kisses. ‘I want to savor every page, every word, every

punctuation mark.”

I couldn’t help but laugh softly. “That’s the corniest thing you’ve ever said.”

Derek paused, looking into my eyes with surprising earnestness. “Do you like hearing things like that?”

Instead of answering, I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him down for another kiss, letting actions/speak where words. failed me. Outside, snow continued to fall silently, blanketing the Wells estate in white, while inside, Derek and I found warmth an each other’s arms, momentarily forgetting the pain of the past and the uncertainty of the future.
