Franklin had disappeared somewhere behind me, probably watching from a distance. Sasha, Cora, and I were dancing. I was laughing at one of Sasha’s dry jokes when she suddenly went still and tried to get my attention.
“What is it?” I asked, but she couldn’t speak.
My eyes followed the direction she was staring. The music was loud enough that I felt the bass in my chest more than I heard it.
Cameron.
Oh.
Shoot.
My brain stalled. He looked completely out of place under the flashing lights, tall, solid, and serious while everyone else moved around him like he was some kind of obstacle in the room. A few people nearby had already noticed him, whispering that the Alpha was in the club. Heads were turning. Whispers were spreading fast.
Not their fault. The Alpha rarely showed up anywhere without warning. And definitely not at a club.
Franklin rushed forward. Cameron’s glare landed on fne, and my heart started pounding.
“Why the hell are you here?”
I opened my mouth to answer, but the words wouldn’t come out..
“She’s dancing, not starting a war,” Sasha said.
Cora’s eyes went wide. She elbowed Sasha hard enough that Sasha almost stumbled.
Franklin looked between us and sighed like a man who knew he was about to have a long night.
Cameron’s attention shifted briefly to Franklin.
“You told her to come home.”
“I tried. She said no.”
“Because there’s nothing wrong with being here.”
Cameron looked back at me. He was clearly mad, but his voice stayed controlled.
“You’re carrying my child,”

Heat crawled up my neck, half embarrassment, half irritation. “And?”
“And you should not be in a crowded place where anything could happen.”
“I’m with friends. I’m not drinking.”
I grabbed my cup from the nearby table and lifted it slightly. “Orange juice. See? Responsible incubator behavior.”
Franklin made a choking sound that might have been laughter. Sasha covered her mouth.
Cameron didn’t smile. He stepped closer instead, lowering his voice so only I could hear.

“You wouldn’t have listened.”
He was probably right.
My throat felt oddly tight, which was annoying because I preferred being amused.
I forced a small smile instead. “So the Alpha of the territory drove across town to drag his stubborn surrogate out. of a club. That’s going to be great gossip.”
“I don’t care about gossip.”
“I do,” I said. “Because I’m the one people judge.”
His expression shifted slightly at that. Not anger. Something closer to realization.
“I didn’t think about that,” he admitted.
That surprised me again.
I sighed. “Look, I wasn’t doing anything dangerous. I needed one night where I felt normal.”
His eyes searched my face. “You are normal.”
I let out a short laugh. “I’m pregnant with someone else’s baby while living in a mans ion with his sick mate. Nothing about this is normal.”
Silence stretched between us.
Then he said quietly,
“Get in the car.”
