The club came into view a few minutes later. The building was larger than the others nearby. Lights flashed across the front entrance. Music thumped faintly, even from outside.
Franklin parked near the entrance and got out with me. As we walked toward the door, I spotted Sasha and Cora on the dance floor through the open entrance. They had not seen me yet.
They were close.
Very close.
Cora’s hands rested on Sasha’s waist. Sasha leaned in, laughing, her head near Cora’s shoulder. Their bodies moved together easily, like they had already crossed some invisible line.
I stopped walking.
Franklin followed my gaze.
“Well,” he said dryly. “That’s unfortunate. Looks like my fake girlfriend prefers women.”
I burst out laughing.
“Cora might be bisexual,” I said. “But Sasha definitely likes girls.”
“That explains a lot,” he replied.
We walked inside together.
The music hit immediately, loud enough that I felt the bass through the floor under my shoes. Colored lights moved across the crowd. Bodies pressed close together. The air smelled like perfume, alcohol, and sweat.
Sasha noticed me first. Her face lit up, and she grabbed Cora’s arm, pulling her around.
“You came!” she shouted over the music.
“I said I might,” I replied.
Cora looked between me and Franklin, her expression shifting for a second. “Oh,” she said. “Hi.”
Franklin gave her a relaxed nod. “Hey.”
The tension on her face lasted only a moment before she forced a smile. I leaned closer to them.
“So my two friends are hooking up behind my back?”
Sasha laughed and shoved my shoulder lightly. “We are not hooking up.”
“You’re holding her like you don’t want anyone else to touch her,” I replied.
Cora looked embarrassed and glanced at Franklin again. He did not react. Whatever fake relationship they had agreed on clearly did not matter to him.
We moved further into the club together. Franklin stayed close, scanning the room occasionally. I noticed and leaned toward him.
“Looking for Nadia?”

He shrugged. “I don’t know if she’s here. I don’t care.’
That didn’t sound honest.
The music changed to something faster. I turned toward him. “Dance with me.”
He blinked. “That’s… weird.”
“Why?”
“You’re carrying Cameron’s child. Dancing with me looks wrong.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m not Cameron’s girl. I’m carrying a baby for them. That’s different.”
He hesitated, then sighed. “Fine.”
We moved onto the dance floor. He was surprisingly good. For someone his size, his movements were controlled and smooth. I found myself laughing more than dancing properly because I did not expect it.
We stayed there for a while, moving with the crowd, the music loud enough to drown out everything else. After a while, we stepped back toward the seating area to cool down. That was when Franklin’s phone vibrated.
He checked the screen. His expression changed immediately. He leaned closer to me so I could hear him.
“It’s Cameron.”
I watched his face while he listened.
“Yes,” he said. “She’s with me.”
Pause.
“At the club.”
Longer pause.
“I understand.”
He ended the call and looked at me.
“He’s pissed,” Franklin said. “He wants you to come home.”
“Why? Is it wrong to go out?”
He did not answer immediately.
“We should leave,” he said.
“No.”
His eyebrows lifted.
“There’s nothing in the contract that says I can’t go out,” I continued. “I’m with friends. I’m not drinking.”
I lifted the orange juice.
Franklin studied me for a second.
“He sounded very serious,” he said.

Why was he trying to control where I went?
I turned away before I said something sharp.
“I’m staying for a little while.”
Without waiting for a response, I walked toward the other side of the club, where the lights were dimmer and the. crowd thinner.
Behind me, I knew Franklin was still watching, making sure I stayed safe. Part of me knew this whole situation would annoy Cameron. Another part of me did not care.
For one night, I wanted to feel like more than a womb.
