Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Lillian’s POV

The guards dragged me into the throne room, where a crowd was already gathered. The Elder Council were standing up by the throne, draped in matching robes. The Queen was there, speaking with the one at their head. The King was also there, but sitting on this throne, he seemed bored by this entire endeavor, barely paying

attention.

The full court seemed to be gathered, including Ophelia with her group, and even Calvin who stared at me with a kind of belated amusement, which would boil my blood if I wasn’t so confused and afraid.

The guard pushed me to the center of the crowd, right at the base of the stairs leading to the thrones.

The Queen and the council stared down at me. The rest of the room went quiet as the grave.

I was forced down to my knees, which hurt my kneecaps, but the pain of Grayson’s rejection still hurt worse. My mark throbbed beneath the scarf that hid it.

The Queen made the moment last for a long moment, perhaps simply to give me stress. She didn’t need to do that, I was already plenty stressed as it was.

Finally, she spoke, “Luna Princess, I have some questions for you that you need to answer for.”

The guard pushed me down further, so that I was on my hands and knees before the Queen.

“During the ball, you disappeared suddenly,” the Queen said. “You will give us an explanation, with no deceit, of where you went. And why.”

I didn’t know how to answer that. How could Fannounce to the entire court that I had been drugged into a heat? I certainly couldn’t tell them that I had gone to Grayson for satisfaction and that he had marked me. That would give everything away.

That he was awake had to stay secret. Even with my hurt, even with everything else, he had saved my life. He had saved Ronan. I owed him my loyalty. I would keep his secret, taking it to the grave if necessary.

I tried to look up, but the guard pushed me so hard, I nearly smacked my forehead against the ground. Throwing my hand back, I tried to stop him. He must have seen this as an attack, because his hand went to my throat. As he started to squeeze, I struggled against him.

In the fight, my scarf gave way.

Suddenly, the guard stopped.

Everything did.

“My Queen,” the guard said. He grabbed the scarf and tore it away from me, then flung me forward, back onto my

knees.

My hair parted, and my mark was exposed for all to see.

At once, the entire room gasped in unison. The Elder Council whispered among themselves.

The Queen’s eyes flashed dangerously, glaring at me like I was the worst scum on earth. Still glowering at me, she gestured one of her servants toward her.

“Fetch a doctor. I will have this mating mark confirmed.”

The servant nodded, and fled from the room, determined in their purpose.

Ophelia pushed through the crowd. “Forgive me, your Majesty, but you know what this is. We all do. That Lillian is trying to hide it with a scarf is only further proof of her guilt.”

“What are you saying, Ophelia?” the Queen asked, though with the way her brow lifted, I imagined she already had some idea. “Speak clearly.”

“That is a mating mark,” Ophelia said, pointing at my neck. She had a look of pure satisfaction on her face, curling the very edge of her lip. She seemed to be enjoying my disgrace. “Prince Grayson has been in a coma since before Lillian came to the palace. For Lillian to be marked… she must have had relations with another man.” She looked at me. “That’s where you were that night, wasn’t it? You left the ball to meet your lover, and he put his mark on your neck.”
