Chapter 131

“Matilda, this is Lillian,” Grayson introduced. “Lillian, this is Matilda, the Head Housekeeper of the estate and someone that you can trust.”

“Nice to you meet you, Lady Lillian,” Matilda said.

“Nice to meet you, too.”

“Matilda, if you could see Lily has a bathroom to shower and dress.” Grayson sighed.

“You know the way to your chambers, Prince? I’ll show Lillian.

“That would be fine,” Grayson said.

My voice caught in my throat as I barely held myself back. I wanted to argue, to say that I didn’t need my own shower, my own room. I had spent so long now at Grayson’s side that it seemed wrong to be without him. Would even be able to sleep, here in this place that I did not know, alone in a large bed?

I should take solace in the fact that he is no longer in the dungeons. He was safe. We both were.

-Yet still I wanted to be at his side. I wouldn’t tell a soul of that desire, though, burying it deeply.

“Thanks,” I said. That was all I could manage.

Grayson looked at me pointedly, but I turned from him, hurrying to Matilda’s side.

“This way, Lady Lillian,” she said and led me up the beautiful curved stairwell to the upper hallways and the rooms beyond. She opened one of the doors to a beautiful bedchamber. Dark mahogany wood of the bedframe and nearby fixtures.

A nightgown, my size, was draped over the black bedspread.

Matilda walked to the on-suite bathroom and opened the door. “You may shower in here, my Lady.”

“Thank you, Matilda.”

She bowed and then saw herself out, closing the door behind her.

Not wanting to linger on my disappointment at having to sleep alone, I rushed forward, snatched the nightgown, and went into the bathroom. Really, what did I have to be disappointed about? I should be thrilled to finally have

my own space.

The shower was perfect, good water pressure. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap were already provided. Curiously, most of the products had a masculine smell, like this room had been prepared for someone else. But how could that be? Wasn’t I given this room specifically?

Although – what had Prime Beta said? He hadn’t been expecting Grayson so soon. If that was true, he likely hadn’t been expecting me at all.

I wasn’t going to complain about any of this. I just found it curious.

After showering, I pulled on the nightgown, delighted by the smooth silk on my skin. It was comfortable, even if I didn’t have undergarments beneath. That, I assumed, would come later. For now, I was grateful just to have this.

I inhaled deeply, ready to step out into a large, beautiful, but too-empty room.

Opening the door, I gasped, and immediately closed it. Then, feeling instantly silly, I opened it again.

Grayson was standing to the side of the bed in nothing but a pair of sleep-pants hung low on his hips. His hair was damp, dripping water droplets down on his wide shoulders.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

He lifted one brow, giving him a bemused expression.

“This is my bedroom,” he said.

“It is?”

“Yes.” He tilted his head ever-so-slightly. “Did you want your own?”

“It’s not like that,” I said, backtracking quicker than I ever had before in my life. “I just wasn’t expecting this. A thought… Well…”

He waited for me to finish.

I sighed. “I thought, outside of the palace, that you wouldn’t want me.”

His features hardened, and determination sparked in his eyes. Without another word, he walked toward me, wrapped his arm around my waist, and pulled me to him.

“Grayson?”

“Your unwavering loyalty to me deserves a reward,” he said.

I open my mouth to protest, but immediately silenced as he kissed him.
