Sign the Papers Mr. Langford novel Chapter 132

"Lawrence."

"What did he say?"

Wren placed her phone face down. "He told me to trade our divorce for the project."

Maya exploded on the spot. "Is he a total psycho?"

Wren wasn't angry.

At least, not on the surface.

Even now, Lawrence still didn't believe he had done anything wrong.

He didn't see this as a threat.

He simply saw it as a transaction.

In his world, marriage, projects, resources, and women could all be placed on the exact same bargaining table.

Wren picked up her marker again and wrote a single line at the very bottom of the whiteboard.

We don't trade marriage for our careers.

And we don't trade patients for victory.

By ten o'clock that night, the office gradually emptied out.

Wren was still sitting at her desk, revising the patient manual.

When her phone rang, she thought it was Lawrence again.

But the screen displayed Leo's name.

She answered, softening her voice. "Leo."

The line was quiet for a few seconds before the boy whispered, "Mom, are you busy today?"

Wren looked at the unfinished document on her computer.

"I am," she said. "But I have a few minutes to listen to you."

Leo seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Dad didn't yell at me today," he said. "But he didn't talk to me either."

A slight ache flared in Wren's chest, but she didn't rush to make excuses for Lawrence.

"And how does that make you feel?"

"A little sad." The boy paused. "But I didn't go try to cheer him up."

Wren closed her eyes briefly.

"You did great, Leo."

A soft sniffle came from the other end of the line. "Mom, I told my classmates today that your name is Wren Whitaker."

Wren's grip on her phone tightened.

"I heard."
