She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 705

Stepping out from the heavy, cold iron gates of the prison, the blinding sunlight crashed down on her. Lyra Fairchild's steps were unsteady, her mind in a complete daze. Waylon Grayson's words echoed relentlessly in her head, sending a suffocating wave of despair and anger coursing through her veins.

A car sped toward her, its horn blaring loudly. The piercing sound was inches away, but she remained frozen in place as if her soul had left her body, making absolutely no move to dodge.

At the last possible second, a strong arm grabbed her wrist and pulled her back hard. Lyra stumbled right into Rowan Jameson's chest, narrowly avoiding the speeding vehicle.

The driver slammed on the brakes, rolled down the window, and angrily stuck his head out to yell, "Are you out of your mind? Standing in the middle of the road like that!"

Rowan shielded Lyra in his arms, his predatory gaze snapping toward the driver with a chilling intensity.

That freezing glare made the driver swallow the rest of his insults. He hastily pulled his head back in and floored the gas pedal, speeding away.

"Lyra, let's go home," Rowan said.

Lyra pushed against his chest, her eyes clouded with exhaustion. "Why are you here? I need to go to Fairchild Holdings to see Caleb. You go on ahead."

Rowan gripped his wife's shoulders. "How can I leave you alone when you're like this?"

Lyra turned slightly, dodging his touch again, her tone flat. "I survived just fine on my own before you were around."

Rowan swallowed hard. "Fine, I'll take you there."

He had urgent business to attend to right now, and it really wasn't suitable for her to tag along.

Half an hour later, the car pulled up smoothly in front of the Fairchild Holdings building. Lyra opened the door and stepped out, glancing back at the man inside. "Go back to the office. Have Andrea Nash come pick me up."

She hadn't brought her bodyguards today. Andrea must have tipped Rowan off, which was why he had come looking for her. The car definitely had a tracker; otherwise, he wouldn't have found her so easily.

Rowan looked at her fragile silhouette and finally nodded. "Don't leave the building until Andrea gets here."

"I won't."

Rowan drove off first.

Lyra took the elevator alone to the top-floor executive office. When she pushed the door open, Caleb Fairchild was sitting at his desk, flipping through some documents. He looked up and smiled. "What brings you here today?"
