Waylon studied Lyra quietly through the glass after his long speech. But Lyra just held the receiver calmly, her eyes indifferent, giving away no emotion.
He had repeatedly tried to prove that Rowan inherently disliked her, but his venomous words could no longer stir up a reaction.
"Waylon, this is the last time I'll be visiting you."
Lyra sighed. "I didn't expect you to just keep insulting me."
"I don't even care why you hate me anymore... Maybe I didn't benefit you, so you projected all your failures onto me. None of it matters."
"My past life taught me one thing: I don't need to live for love."
"I may not have found someone who loves me purely in this life, but I am going to pour all my love into my son."
A soft warmth melted into Lyra's eyes. "My Pip... my baby. In our last life, he didn't even get the chance to open his eyes and see this world. But in this life, I made sure he did. Watching him learn to talk, watching him eat, seeing him live so happily... every bite he takes fills me with absolute joy. I can't read Rowan, and I can't figure him out. With our past life standing between us, he can never be the love of my life, but at least he's a good father... I don't care about romance anymore. I just want to be a good mother."
Waylon looked up, probing, "What do you mean, you didn't find someone who truly loves you in this life? Are you talking about Rowan, or some other man?"
Lyra paused, surprised he even cared. "Someone else."
"Who?"
"You don't need to know," Lyra replied.
