Caleb visited Blackwood Manor with Kayla.
"How are you feeling? Is the pregnancy going smoothly?" Caleb asked.
Before Lyra could reply, Caleb marveled, "Blackwood Manor is unimaginably huge. It's ten times the size of the Fairchild estate. Last time I was here, I was in such a rush I barely got a good look at the place."
Kayla, completely focused on her, gently pressed, "Does Rowan treat you well? Is there anything you're unhappy about?"
"Everything is fine," Lyra said with a faint smile. "Caleb, Kayla, where are the kids?"
"They're getting louder as they grow. We didn't want them to disturb you," Kayla replied.
"I wouldn't have minded," Lyra said.
Kayla looked at the gorgeous wedding portrait on the wall and sighed happily. "Lyra, you look so happy now."
Lyra didn't know what to say, so she simply offered a soft smile.
Mrs. Whittaker came in to serve tea. Caleb noticed her and said, "Mrs. Whittaker, you left without a word! I guess you just prefer taking care of Lyra. Wherever she goes, you go."
Mrs. Whittaker gave an embarrassed smile.
Kayla smoothed things over, telling Lyra, "We have a new chef at home now. The food is incredible. I heard Rowan personally recommended him. Make sure to thank him for us."
Lyra nodded. "We're family. There's no need for thanks."
As they chatted, Caleb wandered around and stopped in front of the home theater. Staring at the top-tier audiovisual equipment, he got an idea and turned to Kayla. "Should we clear out some space at home to build a dedicated theater room? It would be nice to watch movies together in our free time."
Kayla shook her head helplessly and shot him down. "We don't have the room. We still need to set up a study and a playroom for the kids."
After Caleb and Kayla left, Lyra asked the staff if there were any wedding favors left over. The maids quickly brought out the remaining boxes.
That night, Rowan returned home from a business dinner. The moment he walked in, he saw the table covered in wedding favors. When he went up to the bedroom, Lyra was reading a pregnancy guidebook. He walked over to her. "Why did you dig out all the wedding favors?"
Lyra turned a page with a light tap of her finger and replied casually, "I'm planning to take my old friends out to dinner and share the favors with them."
"What friends?" Rowan pressed.
Lyra simply pressed her lips together, having no intention of going into detail.
Deep down, Rowan didn't want her going out frequently while pregnant. He believed Blackwood Manor was the only safe place for her. "If you don't tell me, you're not leaving the house."
Lyra looked up, defensive. "If I stay cooped up in here doing nothing but resting, I'm going to lose my mind. It's just a simple dinner out. I'll be back early. It's just my former colleagues."
