She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 602

Waylon paused, his tone unreadable. "Not letting anyone see Mrs. Jameson? Are you keeping her on that tight of a leash?"

Rowan lifted his eyes and abruptly threw out a question. "Do you have someone you love?"

Waylon didn't answer. He simply stood up in silence and organized his briefcase.

"Forget it," he said coolly. "I just won't come here anymore. I'm leaving."

The second Waylon stepped out of Blackwood Manor, Rowan issued an order to the staff. "Never let Waylon Grayson set foot in Blackwood Manor again."

When Lyra found out, she wondered if he was overreacting.

Waylon's words had been sharp, but he hadn't actually done anything completely out of line.

But before she could say anything, Rowan left to run an errand. By the time night fell and he returned, he was carrying a thick stack of files—dossiers on new maids, security personnel, and potential estate managers.

"These are all fully vetted, clean-background candidates. Take your time looking through them," he said. "They're coming in tomorrow. Whoever catches your eye and makes you feel comfortable, we'll keep them on staff."

Lyra actually sat there with the stack of files, taking the task very seriously. By the time Rowan stepped out of the bathroom after showering, she was still propped up against the headboard, reading under the bedside lamp. Pen in hand, she made detailed notes and added strict requirements to each resume. Most of her notes demanded deeper background checks on their social circles, rigorous enough to dig through generations of family history.

Lyra turned her head to look at him. Stripped of his sharp daytime suits, wearing only comfortable loungewear, Rowan's usual cold and imposing aura had entirely softened.

Rowan's heart fluttered under her gaze. He let out a low laugh. "If you keep staring at me like that, my little brother is awake."

Lyra's face instantly burned. She grabbed a soft pillow and smacked it squarely against his sharply defined face. Then she yanked the blankets up, cocooning herself tightly, and rolled over with her back to him, pretending to be fast asleep.

Rowan chuckled. He went to the bathroom and didn't return to the bed until she was genuinely fast asleep.

When she woke up the next morning, Rowan was already gone, as usual.
