Inside the car, Lyra couldn't fight off her exhaustion and fell into a deep sleep.
Upon arriving at his place, Jayden moved quietly. He carefully scooped her up into his arms, carried her inside, and settled her into a bedroom.
Just as he stepped out into the living room, frantic knocking erupted at the front door.
Jayden frowned slightly. Walking to the door, he asked, "Who is it?"
Sabrina's furious voice immediately pierced through the door. "You brought Lyra here! What exactly did you do to her?"
Jayden pulled the door open, his tone perfectly calm. "She just fell asleep."
Sabrina's eyes darted frantically into the apartment. She demanded, "Instead of taking her home, you brought her to a place like this?"
"She told me herself that she didn't want to go back just yet."
Sabrina barged into the bedroom and saw Lyra already asleep on the bed. Having no other choice, she returned to the living room, glaring daggers at Jayden.
"You'd better not be getting any sleazy ideas, trying to forcefully sink my ship!"
Jayden replied evenly, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Meanwhile, back at the private women's clinic.
Rowan's face was chalk-white as he gripped the surgical consent form like a lifeline. He stood before Dr. Gable, still wearing his suit from the press conference, his voice violently trembling. "How is she?"
Dr. Gable's expression remained neutral as she met his gaze. Honoring her earlier promise to Lyra, she answered, "Mhm. The procedure is complete."
"Per the patient's request, we proceeded with the standard protocol."
Rowan's heart instantly shattered into an empty void.
He knew with terrifying clarity that he was completely, utterly finished.
The baby in her womb was gone, and Lyra would never belong to him again.
The clinic director stood beside him, looking grim as he reprimanded Dr. Gable. "How on earth did you finish a procedure that quickly?"
Andrea closely tailed his car on her motorcycle.
Soon, Rowan was blocking Jayden's front door. His eyes were bloodshot with a bone-deep rage as he glared murderously at the man inside. "Hand Lyra over."
Jayden didn't yield an inch, returning his stare evenly. "She's not here."
The two men faced off just feet apart, the tension in the air so thick a single spark could detonate it.
Andrea swiftly swept the apartment inside and out. "Mr. Jameson, Miss Fairchild genuinely isn't here."
Rowan's fury was completely submerged in his eyes, a suffocating, terrifying aura rolling off him in waves.
"She's weak and in pain. Instead of taking her home, you brought her to your place. What exactly were you planning?"
Rowan scanned the layout of the three-bedroom apartment. His knuckles turned white as his fists clenched tightly. "Spit it out. What were you going to do?"
Jayden replied coolly, "Who knows? But certainly not what you did."
