The group returned to the Fairchild estate. The moment they stepped inside, Delilah grabbed Lyra's hands, her eyes brimming with heartache. "My sweet girl, you've suffered so much."
She laid down a new rule. "From this day forward, no one in this house is allowed to mention that man's name."
She then went to thank Frederick.
Noticing Lyra's low spirits and the heavy atmosphere in the house, Frederick realized it wasn't appropriate for him to stay. After a brief conversation, he excused himself.
Caleb walked him out. "Frederick, thank you so much for everything you've done recently."
Once Frederick left, Delilah sighed softly, speaking from the heart. "We're so lucky Frederick never stopped looking for you. Even Caleb wasn't as dedicated as him."
Lyra didn't reply to that. She simply said, "I'm going to check on the kids."
With that, she turned and walked upstairs.
The nursery was quiet. Andrea Nash was gently rocking a baby in her arms, her movements tender and careful. Hearing footsteps, she looked up at Lyra. "Miss Fairchild..."
Lyra walked slowly to the crib, her gaze falling on the sleeping child. Her voice was very soft. "Thank you for your hard work. I'm sorry for troubling you to watch them all this time. Where's the new nanny?"
"The new nanny came and went. It seems they can't find a suitable fit."
Lyra looked surprised. "What? It's been so many days. Have you been taking care of them this whole time?"
Feeling incredibly guilty, Lyra didn't have time to chat. She turned and quickly went downstairs to find Delilah.
Delilah looked her over, speaking in a gentle tone. "Andrea, I've seen how hard you've worked taking care of the twins recently. We haven't found a suitable nanny, so I was thinking you could stay on long-term just to watch the kids. Your salary will remain the same. We absolutely won't mistreat you."
Hearing this, Andrea politely declined. "Mrs. Fairchild, thank you for thinking highly of me. I was more than willing to help out because Miss Fairchild wasn't here. But I'm truly not suited for long-term childcare. I have a relaxed personality, and watching babies day and night is a massive responsibility. I'm afraid I wouldn't provide the best care over time, which would be unfair to the children and a betrayal of your trust."
She looked apologetic. "It's much safer to find a professional nanny."
Delilah hadn't expected Andrea to refuse. "You aren't just Lyra's bodyguard; the safety of the entire Fairchild family relies on you. If you stay on as a dedicated nanny, it's still part of your duties. I promise your salary and authority will remain the same. We won't let you lose out."
"Mom," Lyra said, rubbing her forehead. "Just hurry up and hire a real nanny. Everyone has their own role. If you won't find one, I will."
Without arguing further, she turned, immediately grabbed her other phone, and reached out to her contacts to filter candidates. Within half a day, she secured two suitable nannies and scheduled them for interviews the very next morning.
