She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 506

Lyra hadn't expected him to be so willing to help. She was thrilled.

The restaurant wasn't far from the Sawyer estate, and they arrived at the grand villa in no time. Frederick stepped up and rang the bell.

The maid who opened the door immediately recognized him and called out, "Mrs. Sawyer, Mr. Parker is here."

Mrs. Sawyer looked surprised when she saw Lyra trailing right behind him. "You two know each other?"

Frederick nodded. "I went to school with her brother. The schools in Seaborne City were better, so I lived with my grandmother and went to high school there."

A maid quickly brought over some tea.

"Please, sit and have some tea," Mrs. Sawyer said politely, her tone guarded. "I have my own thoughts on certain matters, so there is no need for outsiders to weigh in."

Lyra cast an anxious glance at Frederick.

Frederick picked up his cup, took a slow sip of the clear tea, and set it down. "Mrs. Sawyer, Lyra told me she didn't come here for her own benefit. She came here to protect you. That's the only reason I agreed to come back with her. I don't usually get involved in other people's business."

Mrs. Sawyer hesitated. "...Then tell me exactly what happened between you and Jasmine. Let's hear the full story."

Lyra sat perfectly straight. "I was originally engaged to Rowan. He broke off the engagement because of Jasmine. Later, when Rowan fell into the ocean and nearly drowned, I was the one who jumped in and saved his life. But Jasmine stole the credit and pretended she was the one who rescued him. Once Rowan finally uncovered the truth, he broke up with her. In between all of that, Jasmine sabotaged me more times than I can count..."

Her tone was completely flat and objective. She wasn't whining or trying to play the victim; she was simply laying out the facts. Mrs. Sawyer gripped her cane, listening in total silence. The stubborn defensiveness in the older woman's eyes slowly began to crack, and her previously intimidating aura softened.

"I just refuse to let the Ford family win," Lyra replied. "But you seriously overhyped me in there. Bringing up Secretary Thorne like that... you made me sound like some kind of saint. I was actually embarrassed. I always have my own motives; I wouldn't call it a 'strong sense of justice.'"

Frederick's gaze was warm. "Caleb is a deeply honorable guy, so it makes sense his sister would be the same. You rushed all the way out here to protect someone else's legacy. That alone is incredibly rare..."

Lyra looked up, and their eyes locked. Frederick's gaze was bright and steady, but he quickly blinked and looked away, his tone shifting back to casual. "Come on. Let's go grab something to eat."

"Okay."

Lyra pulled out her phone and immediately dialed Andrea Nash, but it went straight to voicemail. She was probably still on the plane.

She quickly sent a text instead, telling Andrea the crisis was averted and she didn't need to come anymore. Just to be safe, she dropped a pin with the restaurant's location, adding that if Andrea had already landed in Jansville, she should meet them there for food.
