Rowan's gaze turned impossibly dark. "Come with me. We aren't doing this here."
Lyra scanned the empty room, her chest tightening with panic. She was terrified that the cartel members might double back. If she was this rattled while standing in a high-end restaurant, the undercover cop was practically a walking corpse right now.
Her heart hammered wildly against her ribs.
With his grip like iron around her wrist, she had no choice but to follow him to the car, practically dragging her feet.
Once inside the luxury vehicle, Lyra pressed her forehead against the icy glass of the window. Rowan didn't say a single word the entire drive.
The car glided into the sprawling grounds of Blackwood Manor. Rowan marched her straight into the master suite and tossed a set of clean clothes onto the bed. "You aren't leaving tonight."
"Why?"
The temperature in the room seemed to drop by ten degrees. "You cried."
"If you cry and we don't sleep in the same bed, I have nightmares."
Lyra stared at him, utterly stunned. It was the most psychotic excuse he had ever used to keep her hostage.
"Wash up and go to sleep," Rowan ordered, pivoting on his heel and shutting the door behind him to head to his study.
Lyra dumped her white coat into the laundry hamper, revealing a fitted, cream-colored knit dress underneath.
A maid brought in a glass of water, and Lyra took a few shaky sips. Suddenly, a jolt of sheer terror hit her. She slammed the glass down and sprinted down the hall to the study.
The room was bathed in the harsh, blue glow of the monitors. Rowan was seated at the massive desk, his fingers flying across the keyboard with lethal speed. In seconds, the screen bypassed a firewall and hijacked the Municipal Traffic Surveillance Network.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Lyra shoved the door open and sprinted toward him.
The moment she saw him ripping through the city's street cameras, she knew exactly what he was hunting for.
She was drowning in the intoxicating, terrifying tension between them. A violent shiver racked her spine. It was as if her body had been hotwired to crave his touch, betraying her mind as she trembled uncontrollably against him.
His voice was a dark, raspy growl. "You want this just as much as I do, Lyra."
Her mind short-circuited. The blinding physical pleasure warring against her psychological torment pushed her to the brink of insanity. Her face contorted in agony as she shoved violently against his chest.
"You destroyed my entire family! I feel absolutely nothing for you!"
But she only managed to push his shoulders back an inch.
He didn't let her go.
Deaf to her screams, Rowan's movements turned brutal. He kissed a trail down her porcelain neck, taking her with a primal, unrelenting force.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
