His tone abruptly turned ice-cold. "If you want to stay single forever, then stay single. But if I ever find out you broke your word and got romantic with another man... or ended up marrying someone else... I'll have no choice but to drag you back here as my hidden mistress."
A chill shot through Lyra's heart, but she didn't voice any objection, silently accepting the ultimatum.
Rowan hadn't expected her to agree to such terms so easily. Looking at her, a faint, mocking smile touched his lips. "Hah. Seaborne City is about to get a spinster who refuses to marry. You'll just have to spend your whole life with your nieces and nephews, relying on them to take care of you when you're old."
Wasn't he thinking a bit too far ahead?
Lyra mumbled, "I like it that way..."
Just being free from his grip was a miracle; she didn't dare provoke him further. Lyra added, "Don't worry. I will absolutely never get married."
Rowan stood up expressionlessly and pulled the crown from the cabinet. During his business trip, he had tracked down a master restorer and had the piece completely rebuilt.
"The crown has been fixed by a master craftsman. It's as good as new."
Lyra took it with both hands. Staring at the crown again, she felt a swirl of complicated emotions. She sneered internally—some damage, once done, could never truly be undone.
"You can leave now."
Just as Rowan finished speaking, he added, "And take your thing from the bookshelf with you."
What could he possibly have of hers on his bookshelf?
Confused, Lyra went over to look, only to find her extracted tooth resting right next to his bullet, right beside a double-barreled shotgun.
Lyra shuddered. Clutching the crown in one hand and pinching her tooth in the other, she bolted.
"No need. I wish you the best, Miss Fairchild," Andrea declined with a polite smile.
Lyra gave her a bright smile, leaning over to give her a gentle hug before pushing the car door open.
Watching the car drive away, a quiet sense of loss crept in. It was a shame Andrea wasn't willing to come work for her.
When she went inside, she was surprised to find the house empty. After making a quick call, she learned the family had taken the baby to get vaccinated.
Lyra changed into her own clothes and finally turned on her phone. Only then did she see that Rowan had actually wired the millions of dollars for the car.
She immediately transferred the funds into an offshore corporate account.
