"Everyone around you is faking it! You'll lose the one you love the most!"
His eyes turned completely icy. "Are you done?"
"If you don't want that mouth of yours, I can find something else to plug it with. Never tried it before, want a demonstration?"
Lyra screamed hysterically, "Go to hell! Go to hell!"
Rowan lost the last of his patience for her cursing. He grabbed her jaw, forcefully dragging her toward the bed.
Fortunately, he also had the sense to know that while she was completely out of her mind, handing over his vulnerability wasn't the smartest move.
Lying on the bed, Lyra watched the veins bulge in his neck, a clear indication of the sheer force he was exerting.
Lyra gasped for air, feeling like she was going to die beneath him.
Despite the relentless coercion, she let her eyes turn red and her body tremble, but she stubbornly refused to give him the begging he wanted to hear.
When she woke up the next day, Rowan was already gone.
Clutching her aching lower back, Lyra sat up and looked at the floor. Not a single diamond remained.
Her phone was gone, too.
Blackwood Manor also had a few extra bodyguards stationed around the premises.
She was officially locked in.
She called out for Andrea, but Andrea wasn't around. She tried borrowing a phone from the maids, but they only brought her breakfast and completely ignored her pleas.
Opening the window, Lyra saw bodyguards stationed directly below. Even if she dared to jump, those men would just drag her right back inside.
Andrea was absent the entire day.
Every so often, Lyra would shout out, but nobody answered.
Rowan returned that evening. The moment Lyra met his eyes, her hands balled into tight fists. She had realized during the day that all the sharp objects upstairs had been removed. The only weapons she had left were her teeth, and she fully intended to rip his throat out.
He took off his shirt, revealing a lean, heavily muscled torso with defined lines that spoke of rigorous, daily workouts.
Lyra reacted instinctively, launching into another frantic tirade against him.
By the time he finished, Lyra was completely drained of energy, limp and exhausted as a ragdoll.
The next morning, Rowan heard a soft, delicate voice murmuring by his ear, "Pip... Pip..."
A light sleeper, Rowan woke at the slightest sound. He opened his eyes and turned his head to look at her. The woman's face was pale, her lips swollen. She was curled up in pain, seemingly begging him in her dreams.
She talked a big game during the day, though.
Rowan pulled her into his arms, patting her back soothingly. He brushed the back of his hand against her forehead and realized she was slightly feverish.
His gaze settled into a calm focus. He got up, called his assistant, and asked for a doctor. "Send a female doctor."
Dr. Anya Sharma arrived shortly after, prescribing medication to reduce the swelling and fight off any infection.
While she was still asleep, Rowan carefully applied the ointment to her swollen skin. He instructed the maids to prepare some soup so she could eat and take her medicine as soon as she woke up. Before leaving for work, he called Andrea in.
However, just as he left for the office.
Caleb got there first.
