Rowan raised an eyebrow, looking mildly amused. "You actually fight with your family?"
Lyra's thick lashes fluttered downward as she offered a noncommittal hum.
Thinking nothing of it, Rowan instructed the staff to prepare the presidential suite.
The moment they stepped into the suite and the door clicked shut, his dark gaze locked onto her. His voice dropped to a husky register. "This isn't a test of my endurance tonight, is it?"
Lyra shook her head.
A soft smile instantly blossomed in Rowan's eyes. He leaned down to capture her lips.
Lyra hastily turned her head, dodging the kiss as a faint flush crept up the tips of her ears. "Go take a shower first."
"Alright," the man agreed lightly, spinning on his heel and heading straight for the bathroom.
Lyra was acting far too docile today.
But considering her mood swung wildly from one day to the next—and had been for a while—he didn't dwell on it.
Rowan had already grown accustomed to her unpredictability.
The second he was out of sight, Lyra texted Jasmine the room number.
Jasmine slipped into the suite while Rowan was still in the shower.
Lyra noticed Jasmine was only carrying a tiny clutch—nowhere near big enough to hold a crown. Her expression instantly darkened. "Where is my crown?"
The moment Jasmine stepped inside, she got to work. She hastily lit the aphrodisiac incense, shrugging off her coat as the room warmed up. She was too busy setting the scene to acknowledge Lyra.
"Where is my crown?" Lyra demanded again.
Jasmine completely discarded her wool coat, revealing a scandalously short slip dress that ended high on her thighs, showing off her long, stunning legs.
Knowing exactly what was about to happen, Jasmine's face was deeply flushed, her lips plumper and more inviting than usual.
Lyra felt a wave of nausea wash over her and looked away. "Give me my stuff! Or get the hell out of here."
Jasmine finally threw her a glance. "I left it at the front desk. Go get it yourself."
The cloying, sweet scent of the incense began to permeate the room. Lyra clamped a hand over her nose. "I thought you were confident. You actually need to use tricks like this?"
While Jasmine was distracted with the remote for the blackout curtains, Lyra darted out the door, pulling it shut behind her.
The loud click of the lock sent a violent jolt through Jasmine's chest.
At the very same moment, the hairdryer abruptly shut off.
Jasmine's heart began to hammer against her ribs.
The blackout curtains completely sealed off the outside world.
The entire suite was plunged into absolute, suffocating darkness.
Rowan stepped out of the bathroom with only a towel hitched around his waist. Backlit by the doorway, droplets of water trailed down the sharp lines of his jaw, tracing over the taut, sculpted muscles of his abdomen before soaking into the soft cotton of the towel.
Guided by the faint light spilling from the bathroom, he spotted the silhouette of a woman standing in the pitch black. "Why is it so dark?" he chuckled. "We've been together this long, and you're still too shy to look at me?"
Lyra only ever dared to pull her stunts right before she bolted.
So, standing face-to-face in the bedroom, Rowan didn't suspect a thing.
