A few days later, Lyra was driving home from work. As she neared her house, she immediately spotted the person waiting outside the wall.
Lyra hit the brakes, her heart fluttering in a panic.
It was Zane Sutton.
Smoothing out her hair, Lyra hurriedly stepped out of the car.
Seeing her arrive, Zane spoke with absolute seriousness, "I'm planning to go abroad. Do you want to come with me and leave this place?"
Lyra's chest flared with sudden heat, a wave of bitterness and warmth churning together as her eyes instantly reddened.
She didn't know if this was her fault.
In her past life, he had been perfectly happy working as a technician at Jameson Group.
But perhaps because of her interference this time around, his father had forced him to return and take over the family business. Zane looked exhausted; he clearly wasn't adapting well at all.
Lyra bit her lower lip. "Is Sutton Enterprises really that bad?"
"I just don't fit into this lifestyle," Zane admitted. "I simply want to leave. My cousin wants me to take over the company and sent two people to help me... but this is just never going to be my area of expertise."
"Once I go abroad, I think I can find work as a teaching assistant first. We could..."
Lyra's heart stirred. She quickly walked over and said, "Why don't you go first? I still need to stay here for a while. Once I've handled my affairs, I'll immediately fly out to join you..."
Zane hadn't expected her to agree.
Coming here today, his biggest fear was that she would refuse, especially since her family was here. Moreover, she had been quite cold and distant toward him recently. For her to actually say yes was beyond his wildest expectations.
"Really?"
Suppressing her complicated emotions, Lyra looked up at him. "Once we're both abroad, whether we end up together or not, I promise to give you a definitive answer."
Zane smiled brightly. "Okay..."
His emotions swayed, and he subconsciously leaned in closer, but Lyra abruptly took a half-step back.
A faint blush crept up her cheeks, and her voice held a hint of panic. "Sorry. Next time."
Smiling, Zane got into the car. He bid her a reluctant goodbye through the window before finally driving away.
The moment he left, Lyra frantically scanned her surroundings. "Andrea!"
"Andrea, come out right now."
As soon as the words left her mouth, she spotted the figure standing under a nearby tree. Lyra rushed forward and demanded, "Where's the camera? Did you take photos?"
Andrea looked troubled. "No."
Lyra snatched the phone right out of Andrea's hand, her tone tense. "Unlock it. I'll give it back after I check."
"I didn't take any today... Miss Fairchild..." Andrea stepped aside awkwardly. "Mr. Jameson is already here."
