Lyra was completely caught off guard. She couldn't even form a coherent response. Just then, a pair of warm hands gently settled on her waist, and a solid, heated chest pressed firmly against her back, wrapping her securely in his embrace.
"I—I have to go."
Not daring to say another word, Lyra hung up the phone before Maddie could even reply.
Rowan's deep voice rumbled right next to her ear, laced with dark amusement. "Would you?"
Lyra spun around, deliberately ignoring the question, and pivoted the conversation. "Your girlfriend is currently in a very public screaming match with your other rumored fling, and the internet is tearing itself apart over it."
Rowan already knew. "And right now, I'm on a date with my rumored wife."
Before she could process that, he leaned down and kissed her hard.
Flustered and furious, Lyra kept tugging at the back of his shirt. "We're on a balcony! If you don't care about your reputation, I care about mine!"
She shoved him away, her face burning, and practically sprinted back inside the dining room.
The dishes began to arrive one by one.
Rowan rarely took the time to have dinner with her, yet Lyra seemed even busier than he was. She hadn't taken a single bite. Ever since that phone call, her fingers hadn't stopped flying across her screen.
He sat next to her, watching as she aggressively typed out comments defending Josie.
"What is this? Are you a Josie fan now?"
Lyra didn't even look up, her tone completely flat. "As long as it pisses off Jasmine, I'm all for it."
Even though she hated Josie too.
His eyes darkened slightly. "The reason? You're jealous."
The moment those words left his mouth, the temperature in Lyra's eyes plummeted. Her expression turned entirely frigid.
One of the girls sighed dramatically. "I always said Rowan Jameson was impossible to lock down!"
...
Early the next morning, a massive crowd of paparazzi staked out the entrance of the Jameson Group headquarters. Armed with cameras and microphones, they were all desperate for the first exclusive scoop. But when Rowan finally arrived, his security detail ruthlessly shoved them back.
The reporters shouted over the wall of bodyguards:
"Mr. Jameson, is it true that Jasmine Ford confronted Josie Somerset because of you?"
"Has your relationship with Jasmine hit a breaking point? Have you two officially split up?"
Despite the barrage of flashing lights and screaming journalists, Rowan didn't even bother putting on an act. His face was a mask of cold indifference as he gave a single, icy response: "No comment."
Without another word, he walked straight past them, escorted by his guards, offering absolutely no further explanation.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
