Lyra had worn a simple beige skirt suit for her date with Christian—just her standard, elegant everyday style.
But when she had met Zane, she had dressed to the nines, making a very deliberate, careful effort.
It was painfully obvious that she treated Zane differently.
Rowan observed all of this with calculated patience. Two days later, he finally found the time to give Mr. Sutton a call.
"Uncle, do you have a moment? Let's grab some tea."
Mr. Sutton knew his nephew never reached out unless he had an ulterior motive. "Of course, Rowan. I'm free right now."
Rowan immediately headed to a private, elegant tea house.
After settling in and exchanging brief pleasantries, Rowan cut straight to the chase and brought up Zane's employment at his tech firm.
Mr. Sutton had only just found out about his son's secret return to the country after Vivienne's explosive tantrum.
The topic made him visibly uncomfortable. "Rowan, I'm sorry for the trouble he's caused you."
Rowan spoke smoothly, "Zane was insistent on only signing a two-year contract with my company. In my opinion, he definitely has other plans lined up locally."
With Zane's talent, a core technical position like his demanded at least a five-year commitment. A two-year stint was highly suspicious.
Rowan suspected he was just biding his time, waiting for Lyra to change her mind.
He was still plotting to jump ship to Fairchild Holdings, all for her.
Rowan tightened his grip on his teacup.
Besides, the fiery and fiercely protective Vivienne had a massively powerful maiden family backing her up. With both Commissioner Jameson and Rowan holding supreme authority, Mr. Sutton had never even dared to entertain the idea.
"Rowan... I'm just terrified of angering your aunt," Mr. Sutton admitted, his eyes filled with absolute helplessness and conflict.
Rowan zeroed in for the kill. "I'll give Aunt Vivienne whatever she wants. She's been spoiled by my grandfather and father her entire life, so she's just a little arrogant, that's all. You don't need to worry about her. I'll handle it."
"All you need to do is formally bring Zane back into the Sutton family and arrange a proper marriage for him to settle your worries."
Rowan's gaze darkened. "Maisie gets along perfectly well with Cas. I doubt she'll mind having an older brother around."
Mr. Sutton froze. He stared at the fiercely calculating young man across from him, asking hesitantly, "Rowan... are you genuinely trying to help me?"
A knowing smirk tugged at the corner of Rowan's lips. He didn't offer a direct answer, simply taking a slow sip of his tea.
