In her past life, she had suffered absolute agony as the poison slowly destroyed her body. If Rowan had died a quick, painless death, it would only make her furious.
She would just imagine that his death had been excruciating.
That night, Lyra took a hot shower and, surprisingly, slept completely soundly.
The next morning, Leo called her. "Lyra, what happened to you last night?"
"Everything was fine."
Hearing the lightness in her voice, Leo let out a massive sigh of relief. "That's good."
Lyra was already at her desk working. Secretary Montgomery walked in to remind her of an upcoming meeting. Lyra quickly said into the phone, "If we go out again, you are banned from drinking."
She hung up before he could argue.
Leo felt a twinge of guilt, realizing how deeply she trusted him.
Thankfully, Rowan had promised this was a one-time favor.
It had nothing to do with him anymore.
He swore to himself he would never help set her up again.
...
Rowan hadn't left for the office yet. He had just returned from a morning run when Victoria noticed the dark shadows under his eyes.
"Didn't sleep well?"
He had suffered through the nightmares again.
But compared to the intoxicating rush of holding Lyra in his arms the night before, the torment of a few bad dreams felt entirely insignificant.
Thinking about it, Rowan actually smiled.
Seeing his surprisingly good mood, Victoria was about to ask him about it.
Rowan spoke first. "Mom, if we don't marry Lyra, we forfeit thirty percent of the Group's shares. Isn't it time we handled that?"
As Rowan headed upstairs to pack, Zola sighed dreamily. "Who would have thought? After everything they've been through, Master Rowan and Miss Ford are more deeply in love than ever."
Snapping out of her shock, Victoria quickly ordered the staff to prep his luggage for the trip.
That evening, when Charles Jameson returned home, Victoria personally took his heavy briefcase from his hands.
Dinner was a quiet affair, with just the two of them at the massive dining table. Their eldest was flying out of the country, their youngest was at his university lab, and the sprawling mansion felt unusually empty.
Mid-meal, Victoria brought up the conversation. "Rowan wants the issue with Lyra finalized."
"Lyra and Caspian are both of legal age now. We might as well have them sign the marriage certificate."
"If we back out, we lose thirty percent of the company. Caspian is our son too. Having the two of them marry keeps the wealth in the family and honors the original agreement."
Charles looked up, surprised. "Didn't Rowan say he didn't care about that thirty percent?"
"Maybe he's realized how volatile the market is right now. If he's the one bringing it up, he obviously cares."
Charles simply nodded. He had no objections.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
