She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 281

"If you don't want me, I might join Jameson Tech," Zane Sutton said softly. "Rowan has been trying to recruit me."

Lyra felt a sharp twinge of jealousy, but she managed a tight nod. In her past life, Zane had gone to work for Jameson Tech and thrived there for years. It made sense. Mr. Sutton's company would eventually go to his daughter, Maisie. Even if Maisie didn't have a single business bone in her body, Vivienne would meticulously select a capable husband to join their family and run the empire. People always favored their own flesh and blood. But Vivienne's absolute, ruthless indifference toward her stepson was still jarring to witness.

When Lyra got home, she sought out Delilah to ask about Vivienne's past.

Delilah thought for a moment before letting out a soft sigh. "Years ago, Alistair Jameson wanted your father to marry Vivienne. She agreed to the arrangement, but your father was already in love with me, so he turned it down. Not long after that, Vivienne married Mr. Sutton, who was already divorced with a child."

Lyra was stunned. She always assumed Vivienne hated her simply because she felt Lyra wasn't good enough for Rowan. She had no idea the animosity was rooted in a decades-old grudge.

Lyra retreated to her room, shutting the door behind her. She tried to read, but a knock soon interrupted her thoughts.

Caleb walked in. "Why didn't you go into the office today?"

"Just tired."

"By the way, I couldn't find the corporate seal for the Jameson contract. I looked everywhere."

"Rowan is ruthless. If his terms are that generous, it means something is wrong. The second we sign that contract, Fairchild Holdings will be dragged into a massive capital snare. They'll control our cash flow, our tech ports, our entire supply chain. All they have to do is bury a few loopholes or freeze a payment, and we'll be crippled. Worse, we could be dragged under completely."

In her past life, the Jamesons never wanted a mutual partnership. They wanted to swallow Fairchild Holdings whole and use it as a stepping stone for Ford Enterprises. She still didn't understand why Rowan had suddenly kissed her, but she knew it had to be part of some twisted scheme.

"Just leave, Caleb. I need to rest."

Caleb left the room, looking bewildered. His little sister was getting harder and harder to handle. Out in the hallway, Kayla had clearly overheard the argument. She didn't say anything, but once they were back in their own room, she quietly comforted her husband.
