A sudden, shrill ringtone shattered the silence, and Rowan's bloodshot eyes snapped open.
His phone was ringing.
He didn't reach for it, but Lyra's restless arm flailed out and accidentally swiped to answer.
"Mr. Jameson, the doctor is here," Wesley's voice came through the speaker.
Rowan wasn't sure if he felt disappointed or relieved. He silently released the woman beneath him and let out a heavy sigh.
"Understood," he said, his voice incredibly hoarse.
There was a stunned pause on the other end before the call ended.
He adjusted Lyra's dress, then got out of bed to straighten his own clothes. Taking a deep breath, he waited a moment before cracking the door open.
He didn't let anyone in.
Instead, he reached his arm out. "Give me the syringe."
Wesley hesitated but quickly said, "Mr. Jameson, it's best to let the doctor handle this."
"Is it a male doctor?"
"It's Dr. Coleman."
Naturally, it was a man.
"Hurry up."
He still demanded the syringe.
Rowan's jaw was clenched tight. Catching a glimpse of him through the crack, Wesley sensed his boss was in a bad state. Was he drugged too?
Lyra had spit half a pill out earlier; surely the boss hadn't picked it up off the floor and swallowed it.
Not daring to dwell on the thought, Wesley had Dr. Coleman draw the medication into the syringe.
The moment Rowan took it, he slammed the door shut.
Back in the inner room, he found Lyra writhing on the large bed. The scent of her passion filled the air as she flushed with heat, using a scrap of lace underwear to fan her face.
The sudden burst of anger made Wesley break out in a cold sweat.
He felt as though his boss might snap his neck at any second.
Wesley realized he had completely misinterpreted the situation.
He nodded frantically to show he understood. "I'll call Sharon right away."
Sharon Hayes was known as the most attentive and gentle secretary on the team.
Wesley practically sprinted out of the room to make the call.
When Sharon arrived, Rowan gave her a few brief instructions before leaving.
Sharon entered the bedroom and found a woman lying on the bed. She recognized her immediately; it was Lyra, who used to frequent the Jameson Group offices. She was fully dressed but still unconscious. Her complexion was slightly flushed, though nothing too alarming.
Sharon sat in the armchair for half an hour, watching as the woman's skin slowly returned to its luminous, natural state.
Seeing she was about to wake up, Sharon got up to pour a glass of water. The clinking of the glass seemed to rouse Lyra from her slumber.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
