She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 243

Lyra rode back to the Fairchild estate in Leo's car, only to be met with a chaotic scene. Lucas was standing outside the villa gates, locked in a heated argument with Caleb.

"L-Lucas?" Leo stammered, staring wide-eyed.

He hadn't expected his cousin to be back in the city. Then it hit him—with Rowan's engagement party happening tomorrow, Silas must have given Lucas a one-day pass to return.

Lyra immediately jumped out of the car and jogged over.

"Lyra Fairchild!"

Caleb shouting her full name meant he was livid. He adored her and would never lose his temper like this without a damn good reason.

"W-what's going on?" Lyra asked, slowing her steps.

Lucas looked up at her. It had been months since they last saw each other. His dark, intense gaze lingered on her, filled with a mess of complicated emotions.

Caleb pointed a furious finger at Lucas. "Lyra, this guy just claimed you risked your life on that overpass purely for the sake of Fairchild Holdings! He called me a useless coward who hides behind his little sister. He said I don't even deserve to be your brother, and that you'd do absolutely anything for the company!"

Caleb's chest heaved as he let loose. "Lyra! If you love Fairchild Holdings so much that you're willing to throw your life away for it, I'll transfer all my shares to you right now!"

"Caleb, stop..." Lyra furrowed her brow. "Don't let someone else's nonsense get to you—"

"Don't you see they're always trying to turn us against each other?! How the hell was I supposed to know who was in that car? Do I look psychic to you?"

As Caleb's adrenaline dipped, he realized how absurd it was to think Lyra could have planned the rescue.

But Lucas's sarcastic jab still felt like a knife twisting in his ribs: *'Caleb, your sister carried you this far, even setting up government connections for you.'*

It had left Caleb pale with rage.

Lyra lowered her eyes. "You should ask yourself what you've done to earn that."

"What exactly have I done?"

It was true he hadn't done anything terrible in this timeline, but in her past life...

"You constantly mocked me. You pushed me into the pool... There are too many things to count." Lyra refused to waste another breath on him. "Stop harassing me. We're done seeing each other."

Lucas let out a bitter laugh. "Done seeing each other...Done calling...Fine. Perfectly fine!Lyra, if I ever give a damn about you again, I'll eat my own sh*t!"

Lucas marched toward his car, refusing to look back at her. The car door slammed with violent force, the engine roared to life, and the vehicle peeled out of the driveway, leaving nothing but a cloud of exhaust in its wake.

Sitting in the driver's seat of his own car, Leo barely dared to breathe, terrified of getting caught in the crossfire. He stayed slumped down until the roar of the engine completely faded and his cousin's car disappeared from sight.
