"Shut up," Loyce commanded. Her tone wasn't loud, but it possessed an authority that immediately silenced Helena.
Even Morris shot his sister a slightly surprised look. However, since it was his favored sibling, he didn't intervene. He just watched quietly to see what she was plotting.
Loyce leaned back in her chair, tapping her manicured fingers lightly against her knee.
She looked at Swain, then at Helena, her gaze shifting between the two of them as if confirming a theory.
"Alright, here is the proposal," Loyce finally said, her voice smooth and deliberate. "My brother's hand will never be what it was, but he still requires intense rehabilitation. We're looking at a three-to-six-month recovery window. He lives alone. He doesn't have anyone to look after him, and his household staff isn't trained in medical care. So, you—"
She pointed dead at Helena.
"You will take care of him. You don't have to be here 24/7, but you will come every single day. You'll help change his dressings, assist with his physical therapy, and manage his daily needs until he is fully recovered."
Helena blinked, stunned.
Swain was equally shocked. He immediately blurted out, "I should be the one doing that—"
"You?" Loyce scoffed, barely looking at him. "Looking at you will only remind my brother of the bloodbath. Besides, you're a mechanic. What do you know about nursing care?"
Swain shut his mouth, his face flushing dark red.
Loyce turned back to Helena. "You two are a couple, aren't you? So you share the responsibility. Helena will do it."
She picked up her coffee and took a slow sip. "Do this, and we'll consider the debt settled. The insurance company won't come after you."
Another heavy silence fell over the hospital room.
Swain's fists were clenched tight at his sides. He looked at Helena, his eyes filled with sheer, pathetic desperation. He reached out and tugged gently on her sleeve, lowering his voice to a whisper.
"Helena... would you? Please? If you really don't want to, I'll... I'll try to figure something else out."
His voice was trembling. He was practically begging her to save his life.
"Thank you, Helena. Thank you so much."
Once the couple left the room, Forrest, who had been silently observing the entire exchange, finally spoke up. "What kind of game are you playing now? Bullying a poor assistant into playing nursemaid?"
Loyce's smirk deepened as she looked at Morris. "If my dear brother didn't want this, he would have had them both thrown out of the room five minutes ago, wouldn't he?"
Forrest turned his sharp gaze onto the younger man. "So, what's going on here?"
"Ask him," Loyce quipped.
"Are you looking for a relationship?" Forrest asked.
"No," Morris replied flatly. He glanced at Loyce. "Let's just leave it at this for now."
The smile on Loyce's face only grew wider.
