Loyce graciously accepted the apology, raising her glass in a mock toast. "Since I accepted the invitation, I will, of course, perform."
She walked over to the grand piano and rested her hands on the keys. What followed was a true display of Mr. X's legendary skill. The breathtaking, spellbinding melody echoed through the banquet hall, leaving every guest in absolute awe, their faces slack with sheer intoxication.
When the celebratory piece concluded, thunderous applause practically shook the ceiling.
No one questioned her identity anymore. Her music was absolute, indisputable proof of her dominance.
Seeing Loyce bathe in the spotlight, and noticing that even Lucian couldn't take his eyes off her, Sigrid's jealousy flared into a blinding rage. She lowered her voice and hissed, "Why are you staring at her? Are you getting second thoughts?"
Lucian pulled his gaze away, his tone deadpan. "Since when did you become so insecure about your own appeal?"
Sigrid choked on her anger, forcing her tone to soften. "Lucian, you're on the fast track at Stellar Trust. My father is watching you like a hawk to see if you're the right successor. You need to be careful. If he thinks you're distracted, it will end badly for you."
She flattened her hand against his chest. "I'm just looking out for you."
Lucian's lips twitched into a faint smirk. His eyes flicked toward a shadowed corner of the banquet hall. Following a silent signal, Nathan Huxley, dressed sharply in a waiter's uniform, stepped out of the dark and approached Sigrid with a silver tray of drinks.
Seeing him, Sigrid's scowl returned instantly. She mentally noted to fire the entire security team. How the hell did Nathan sneak in too?
"What are you doing here?" she snapped.
"Sigrid," his voice was a low, intimate murmur that only she could parse. "Can we speak in private? I have something you probably don't want Lucian to see."
She was about to tell him to rot in hell, but then she saw the corner of his phone screen, deliberately angled toward her from beneath the tray.
It was a screenshot.
Two people tangled in bed, the woman's face crystal clear. It was her.
Sigrid's pupils dilated in terror, all the blood draining from her face.
Nathan took the hit, his head turning with the force of the blow. Then, he smiled.
It was a dark, twisted smile that sent a shiver down her spine.
"Blackmail you?" He touched his stinging cheek and stepped slowly toward her. "I would never dare."
Suddenly, his knees hit the floor. He dropped straight down in front of her.
Sigrid froze.
Nathan wrapped his arms around her legs, pressing his face into her thigh. He looked up at her, groveling like an abandoned dog.
"I just missed you too much." His voice was a raspy, sickeningly devoted whine. "These past few days, you've only had eyes for Lucian. Do you have any idea how much it's killing me?"
He tilted his head back, his eyes rimmed with red, unshed tears shimmering in the light.
