She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 1006

Swain seemed to freeze on the other end, but he quickly slipped back into his innocent tone to mask his panic. "How should I know? You never tell me anything. If you're upset about something, just say it. Don't make me guess. It's exhausting having to coddle you every single time."

He firmly believed that absolutely no one knew what happened last night. He and Molly had just gotten carried away in the car because they were drunk. No one would ever find out, least of all Helena.

He was trying to cover his tracks while pinning the blame squarely on her.

Helena felt absolutely nothing. She had already guessed the ending back when his parents had opposed them, and he had been so hesitant and spineless.

She just hadn't expected the man who once seemed so passionate and kind-hearted to be so fundamentally hypocritical—wanting the best of both worlds, making her physically sick to her stomach.

"Where were you last night?" she asked calmly, cutting off his rambling.

She had no intention of wasting any more time on this.

Silence fell over the line for two seconds.

"Last night? I was networking, didn't I tell you? We had to finalize the lighting design for the venue. The whole crew was there. I worked overtime until past eleven before heading home. I was dead tired."

Helena closed her eyes.

She didn't speak immediately. Instead, she opened their message thread and sent over every single photo and video she had casually taken that day, leaving nothing out.

"What did you just send me?" Swain asked.

"A surprise. Open it and see for yourself."

Silence.

Dead, suffocating silence.

Through the speaker, Helena could hear Swain's breathing shift from steady to rapid, ragged gasps.

He never imagined in a million years that she would see it! How could she possibly have seen it?

"Helena..." His voice broke, laced with the distinct, terrified panic of someone who had just been caught red-handed. "Let me explain."

"Explain what?" she asked, genuinely amused. "Explain you and Molly hooking up in your car? Or explain how passionately you were making out with her in the private room?"

The line went dead silent again.

Then Swain said something that almost made her burst out laughing.

"Did you hire someone to follow me?!" he demanded, anger replacing his inability to defend himself. "You invaded my privacy! How could you do that?!"

Helena rubbed her temples. "You think way too highly of yourself."

"Swain," she finally said, her tone absolute. "We're done. Throw away whatever stuff I left at your place. Don't ever look for me again. Consider this the most graceful exit we're going to get."

"Wait, Helena, listen to me! Everyone was cheering us on, I couldn't just embarrass Molly in front of them! And the thing in the car—I wasn't in my right mind! I had no idea what I was doing, I..."

It meant her music was finally getting recognized by the masses. She was finally stepping onto the global stage based on her own talent.

"Helena! You have to treat us to dinner tonight!"

The office erupted into chatter, everyone genuinely thrilled for her.

A bright, radiant smile broke across her face. After ditching the dead weight in her life, her career was finally taking off.

At that moment, she suddenly remembered Morris from the night before. After a moment's thought, she proactively sent him a text.

Meanwhile, Morris was lounging lazily on a black leather sofa. Standing in front of him, Molly Nash was bowed slightly, looking entirely terrified.

"So you're telling me you've genuinely fallen in love with Swain Carter and plan to stay with him?" he asked evenly.

Cold sweat gathered on Molly's back, and she lowered her head even further. "I... I think he's actually a pretty good guy, and capable too. Since he and his girlfriend were going to break up anyway, it just makes sense for us to officially date."

"Relax." Morris gave a mild smile. "By thinking that way, you've actually done me a favor."

"Who you date is your business, as long as you keep your mouth shut." He slid a bank card across the table. "This is your payment."

As Molly bent down to pick it up, Morris added one final caveat. "If this ever gets out, I'll have Hank toss you into the ocean to feed the fish."

Molly nearly dropped to her knees in terror. "U-understood! I'd rather die than say a word!"
