She was absolutely terrible at this.
Yara immediately waved them away. "Next batch! My girl here has high standards."
A second later, another lineup appeared, marching in like a bizarre parade of NPCs.
Yara raised an eyebrow. "How about these?"
Shera vehemently shook her head.
After three or four rounds of this, Yara finally figured out her bottom line. Pointing at the current row of boys, she delivered a half-joking threat: "You have to pick one, or I'm making all of them sit down and keep you company."
The absolute certainty in Yara's eyes told Shera she would absolutely follow through.
To avoid the utter nightmare of being swarmed, Shera gritted her teeth and randomly pointed at an unassuming boy standing in the corner.
"Just... him."
Yara eyed the clean-cut kid and let out a knowing laugh. "Well, well. So this is your type, Shera."
Shera let out a dry laugh and picked up her glass to hide her awkwardness. The boy quickly stepped forward to clink his glass against hers, moving with the stiff obedience of a straight-A student.
He was incredibly good-looking—easily six-foot-one, dressed in a simple white tee, cargo pants, and a classic pair of Jordans.
His soft hair fell loosely over his forehead, and though he had monolids, his eyes were strikingly bright. With his straight nose, soft pink lips, and flawless skin, he looked exactly like an innocent college freshman who had never seen the dark side of the world.
Likely brand new to the job, he sat rigidly upright, exuding a palpable sense of shyness and anxiety.
Desperate to break the ice, Shera asked the first thing that came to mind. "How old are you?"
"Nineteen, miss."
"Pfft."
Shera practically spat out her drink, launching into a coughing fit.
"Careful, miss!" The boy looked terrified, scrambling to hand her napkins while clumsily patting her back to help her breathe.
Nineteen...
Shera's heart sank.
