In the hospital room, Herbert hung up the phone and immediately dialed Hulda's number.

The first call rang out until it disconnected automatically. No one answered.

He stared at the screen for a moment, then dialed again.

Sylvie sat quietly in her bed, her right hand subconsciously gripping the bedsheets.

Over at the Jadecrest Villas, Hulda was in the kitchen making breakfast.

It was the first time she had properly cooked a meal since moving into this house.

But today was different. Sienna had stayed over.

Having just finished washing up, Sienna practically bounded down the stairs, following the delicious aroma straight into the kitchen.

"Wow! Hulda, what are you making? It smells amazing!" she chirped, leaning over the counter to peek at the stove.

Hulda smiled. "Just throwing something simple together. Go sit in the dining room. It'll be ready in a minute."

Back in her old life, Herbert and Miles never stepped foot in the kitchen while she was cooking. They absolutely hated the smell of grease and smoke.

Sienna shook her head violently. "No way, I'm staying right here. It smells way too good!"

True to her word, she refused to leave. She stared at the simmering pot like a starved wolf. "I distinctly remember you not knowing how to cook! That one year... wait, when was it..."
